Description

Rework of the 1:500 multi colour, multi plate model I originally made to allow it to be printed in a single colour, at smaller scale and in one go, rather than as separate parts.

Designed using Fusion 360 from ship deck plans, photographs and videos.

See this video for background info on the design process.

Background into the process involved in taking the 1:500 Multi colour model and making it printable at this scale

https://forum.bambulab.com/t/cruise-ship-print/5122/67

Printing Instructions:

3mf file included will only load into Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer.

Printed time on a Bambu Lab X1C around 7.5hrs at 0.2mm Layer Height, 0.4mm Nozzle, 15% Gyroid infill, Supports turned off.

Model fits on a 256x256 plate if rotated to 45 degrees.

All test prints also done with the full brim.

Untested Prusa Slicer Prusa MK3s 0.20 Quality estimated print time 19h 32m.

Quite a few changes were required to get the model to print successfully at this scale - some parts are very thin at this scale - so are unlikely to work is scale further reduced.

Some extra supports have been added to the STL model to allow it to be printable - these can be snipped off or left in place - most noticeable areas of extra supports are:

  1. Radar tower at front - 3 extra small posts in the centre to hold it up, plus extra bits of the sides of the top bar
  2. Rear bar that overlaps side of ship - 2 extra support bars added each side.
  3. Various extra supports at the back, and under front canopy.

NB/ The front bridge supports are in the real ship - so should not be removed - however they are slightly thicker - so I guess could be cut off and replaced with thinner sections.

A full colour version at this scale will be released in due course, plus similar versions of my other model - Iona.

Test prints all done in BL PLA Matt Ivory White.

f360 ref: Ventura Azura 9b S1000 V30 20/8/23

This is a personal project. I have no connection to P&O Cruises or Carnival Corporation other than being a customer.

This version is released under a CC Non Commercial No Derivatives license due the P&O Cruises branding.

NB/ Bambu Lab have sponsored the filament for some of my other models and I will be using BL sponsored filament for the full colour version of this model I am working on.

Unlikely to without modification, would probably tip over. I might do the underwater part of the Hull at some point on this or one of the larger models.

Replying to @Ukdavewood :
Would be so cool if it float. My 4 year old son loves boats in the bath lol. And especially cruise ships as he has been on a few cruises.

Superb detailed model. I wouldn't have thought it possible to print this extrenmely high level of detail on my X1C. Thank you for the print file,

Thanks - i was surprised too that it worked ok at this scale as the model was originally designed to print st twice the size of this version, so a few parts needed to be beefed up to work at this scale.

does not print well at all…

Details of printer and filament used and parts that didn't print well would help others to know what the avoid - as although the model wasn't designed to print at such a small scale it printed surprisingly well for me after a few tweaks to the more detailed parts.

very realistic, just went on one of the other P&O ships and the detail in this model when compared to what’s in the gift shop is 1 to 1 while the gift shop may or probably is I.M. this print is great and worth a look for those model ship lovers. Thanks to OP for the uploads.
