Description

I had the intention of constructing a box, and while searching for ideas, I came across a game. However, I was dissatisfied with the fact that the lid and the box were not securely attached. Since I have children and wanted to ensure all the pieces stayed inside the box, I decided to explore different hinges from other boxes. Eventually, I found a suitable latch that met my requirements. This version of the game is the fourth iteration, incorporating suggestions and feedback from my kids and friends who had played the previous versions.

Here are the improvements I made based on their input:

  • The first improvement involved implementing a hinge and latch system.
  • I created two variations of the game: one with a single hole on each side of the dice, and the other with the number of holes corresponding to the dice's side.
  • Addressing my son's concern about pegs rolling off the table, I redesigned them with a flat side to prevent rolling. This design also facilitated easier printing since one side of the pegs remained flat.
  • I designed the box to accommodate a business card, allowing me to include the instructions on it.
  • A friend of mine requested a dice holder for playing the game on larger tables. I incorporated this feature, enabling players to place the dice on the box and pass it around.
  • Ultimately, I opted for a simple filament hinge instead of the one I initially copied the latch from.

I utilized ONSHAPE to create the models, and I have included the link to the model for those who wish to make any modifications. The game was printed using three different colors, and the recipient of the game had the freedom to choose colors for the individual components (bottom, top, latch and pins) from those three options. The game went through a total of four iterations to reach its current state.

I print out 60 pegs because it is the LCD (a math term) for 2 to 6 players.

I printed in Mult-color so the Name and numbers will stand out. The name plates are super glued onto the box.

WHY ALWAYS ME?

GOAL: Get rid of all your pegs.

SET UP: The pegs are distributed equally among all players. The fields of the board are occupied according to the number of the dice.

GAME PLAY: On your turn, roll the dice to determine the field. If there is an open hole in the field, place one peg in an open hole. If a field is fully occupied, the player must take ALL the pegs in that field and then the turn moves to the next player. One field, the peg will “DROP” into the box via a through hole.

OPTIONAL: If you roll the “DROP” field number, you get to roll again.

Soon you will know why the game is called

"WHY ALWAYS ME?"
