Description

Introducing a meticulously designed 3D printing filament spool clip, tailored exclusively for Bambu Lab filament spools. Say goodbye to loose filament ends and the hassles of filament tangles!

Note: putting the clips on the left side of spool will interfere with the AMS. I am redesigning the clip right now. V2 will be able to work on both sides.

Key Features:

  1. Stay-in-Place Design: Unlike other spool clips that need to be stored separately while the spool is in use, this clip is designed to always stay with the spool. This ensures that you never lose it and it's always right there when you need it.
  2. Secure Filament Storage: With this clip, securely insert the end of your filament into the designated hole, ensuring it doesn’t tangle or get caught underneath other layers. This minimizes any disruptions or issues during your next print.
  3. 45-degree Chamfers: Thoughtfully designed with 45-degree chamfers around the clip to guarantee that the filament glides smoothly without getting snagged during printing.
  4. Optimized Clearance: This clip boasts a perfect clearance distance from the edge of the spool. This ensures it doesn't interfere with the Bambu Lab AMS roller system, granting you a seamless printing experience.
  5. Precise Fit: Tested rigorously on Bambu Lab spools and the AMS system. The result? A fit that's snug, secure, and just right.
  6. Standard Print Settings: Designed to be printed easily with a standard 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer settings.

Assembly and Usage Instructions:

  1. Inserting the Clip: Apply some force to push the clip into the designated holes on your Bambu Lab spool. Make sure it's securely in place.
  2. Print Multiple Clips: For best results, print 2 clips for each spool. This allows you to insert the filament end into the closest available clip. Only put the clips on right side of the spool if you are looking at your AMS from front.
  3. Removing the Clip: If you ever need to remove a clip, the simplest method is using a side cutter. Clip the end of the pegs, and the spool clip will fall out easily. While it's possible to push out the clip without cutting, it's not recommended to reuse such clips. The pegs might be damaged or weakened over time.
  4. Stay Stocked Up: After a test run, it's advisable to print a batch of these clips. This ensures you're always prepared and never run short of them.

Benefits:

  1. Avoid the inconvenience of tangles and disruptions during prints.
  2. No more wasting time searching for the spool clip; it stays with your spool!
  3. Enhance the longevity and quality of your filament by preventing tangles and kinks.
  4. A seamless addition to your Bambu Lab AMS system.

End Note:

This filament spool clip is a game-changer for Bambu Lab filament users. Get yours printed, install it, and revel in the smooth printing sessions ahead!

Fits nice and tight into the spool. Maybe the filament goes in a bit too tight, but it works.

I will open up the hole size and upload another model. with this size hole. printing settings start to affect how tight it is by 0.02mm.

Replying to @Faithin3D :
I have uploaded 2 more print profiles with 2 different sizes which are slightly bigger. I found different filament feels differently in the same hole size.

I wanted these in PETG because my spools go in the filament dryer. I usually find I have better plate adhesion with PETG but I’ve still had a few parts come off. update: printed perfect with a different filament I’ve also broken a couple of pegs while trying to install them. However, once printed and installed, this size”large” with PETG works very well at retaining the filament, looks elegant and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next version looks like!

I personally like the XL fit better than the Large one. Definitely use a brim to ensure good bed adhesion. Works perfectly, thank you!

Printed the Large Version in Bambu Tough PLA and the filament fits really snug. One of the Peg legs broke during installation but that is no problem as it still fits rock solid. Thanks a lot!

Its a nice Idea, i printed some complete spools with a similar idea. But..... Only use it on one Side of the spool, otherwise it will get stuck in the AMS

Thanks for pointing that out. I had 4 on my spool. I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out. I will update the design to avoid this from happening.
