Description

Please also check out my latest design, a Long Range Dog Whistle at 7,000 Hz. Please download here.

I have also developed other Ultrasonic dog whistles at 20,000 Hz and above, which you can find here.

WARNING:
This is a dog whistle and not a toy! It's very loud which can harm the ears, so please protect your ears and don't use it near other people or animals!

About:

This dog whistle produces a very loud tone of about 21 kHz. This frequency is in the ultrasonic range, so it's very likely that you won't hear the sound at all - unlike many animals and some younger people! I therefore strongly recommend a frequency measurement app for testing. I use this android app.

How to print:

First of all: due to the short wavelengths of ultrasound, this whistle has very small structures inside. Therefore, this print will only be successful on a very precise printer. Even small deviations (for example in the flow or the dimensional accuracy of the printer) can lead to frequency deviations or cause the whistle not to work at all.

Use a 0.4mm nozzle with a line width of 0.4 mm and a layer height of 0.2 mm, 6 top layers and 6 bottom layers.

The whistle requires correct positioning of the Z-seam - it shouldn't be placed in the narrow air passages inside the whistle.

Print slowly!

Filament selection:

It is strongly recommended not to use fancy filament types, but instead use standard PLA, such as Bambulab PLA Basic. Variants such as “matte”, “silk”, “glitter”, etc. should be avoided as they can affect the accuracy of the walls in the airflow.

guess I'm getting old :/ however it printed well and my app says it's hitting 21k no problem and my dog responds to it.

works great, pup can hear it, but I don’t hear a thing. This is going to be my ‘emergency’ whistle I’m training my pup for if I want him to return.

I fired this print off from my phone, figuring “why not” as we have a dog that enjoys barking at the tv a bit too much. this whistle gets his attention in a hurry. great design and effortless print! Hand for scale…

Print came out good. However the real test is if it reaches the frequency. I had to blow pretty hard to have it show up on the spectroid app. This is because of the very, very little airway that is needed to reach the frequency. The frequency I reached was somewhere between 20.5 and 21 kHz

petg, nice! Edit: added result of spectrum analysis (not a precise one - level is for sure not calibrated, cause normal audio microphone should start to filter this frequency, but enough to say - it's working :) ) BTW - despite not hearing, I think my ears "felt" the pressure of this noise - it's a feeling as if something noisy was in the vicinity just after using this whistle...
