Description

Christmas Puzzle Gift Box V1

Features:

  • A locked lid
  • 4 secret compartments
  • Hidden keys
  • Print in multiple colours without AMS
  • Fun for kids

This Christmas puzzle box is a great addition to anyone's Christmas day!

Fill it with sweets or gifts and give your kids the challenge of figuring out how to open the lid!

You need to print the following parts for a full puzzle box:

  1. Box
  2. Lid
  3. Side ribbon strip x 4
  4. Top ribbon strips
  5. Key x 4

All parts are easy to print and fit together easily with generous tolerances.

Assembly:

  • Tilt the box on it's side
  • Insert 1 key into into the recess just below the key hole.
  • Keeping the key in place, gently slide a side ribbon strip into the track and over the key.
  • Keep sliding until it meets the stop above the key hole.
  • Repeat this 4 times.
  • Put the lid on - Ensure all tabs are located by giving the lid a gentle pull. It should now not come off until you insert the keys.
  • Align and glue the top ribbon strips in place. (one has a recess in the centre for the other strip to slot into)

Please note: This is a fun novelty item and not designed to keep your valuables safe. The lid will come off with a good pull regardless of keys. I would suggest explaining that it is a puzzle box, before allowing your 10 year old to just force it apart. - If you want a puzzle box that will not open unless ‘unlocked’ or physically broken, then check out my ‘Christmas Puzzle Box V2’ ;)

Usage:

  1. Slide out all 4 side ribbon strips.
  2. Insert all 4 keys into each of their respective key holes and push them gently until you can twist and lock them into place (The keys are all the same)
  3. Gently pull the lid up around 5mm
  4. All 4 keys should now be loose in their holes.
  5. Without moving the lid, remove the keys and place to one side. (You can pull the lid off at this point, but the keys will fall out)
  6. Lift the lid the rest of the way off the box.
  7. Congratulations, you're in!

Print Settings:

Nozzle: 0.4mm

Infill: 12% Gyroid

Layer Height: 0.2mm

Support: None

Perimeters: 5

Top/bottom Layers: 5

This will make everything pretty solid with minimal infill being used.

Thanks for looking!

Love all of your puzzle designs, should this scale up to 150% or so successfully?

These boxes were actually designed at twice the size and then scaled down. The only thing you may have an issue with are the ribbon strips, as they might end up a bit loose. By all means give it a try and report back, but you may have to print the strips at a larger layer height or say 151 or 152% scale. Thanks :)

What is the size of the box? Would it still work ok if it was scaled down?

It is roughly 100mm squared - I can't guarantee it will work at a smaller scale as there are a lot of tolerances that may not work correctly. Cheers! :)

This Printed well for me. It’s a fun gift box to give to someone for something small. the ribbons on the side were a little difficult to slide on at first, I had to slide them on and off a few times to make it a little easier. My wife still had a hard time with one of them but she got it. what’s cool is it’s also reusable.

Very nice print, all the pieces fit together nicely and were super snug. Only recommendation would be to improve the mini keys for the ability to unlock the lid, the tiny keys are almost too small and twist when removing the lid but it’s a minor issue. Excellent model!!!!!!!!!
