Description

WARNING! Bambu had revved the AMS and the newest version has a very different side slot sizing. If you have orange first stage feeders you probably have the newer version and this mod won't currently work. You can see details of the new model at:

I needed to make space for my third Bambu printer and I didn't like having the AMS on top of the printer since that makes cracking the top glass to print PLA annoying. So I searched and found a couple of AMS wall mounts. But since each AMS is 5+ kg and cantilevered out from the wall a fair way, I really wanted to screw the supporting brackets into the 16" spaced wall studs and avoid needing two side by side brackets for the 2 internal AMS gaps. The AMS is 15" so it is super close to this width. But that meant I couldn't just print a single bracket + support in one piece on its side on the built plate since the AMS support piece must be offset. And I wanted a different double mount piece for middle supports that would be off both sides. So that means printing the top ‘shelf’ separately from the bracket so I could print it flat.

I found and remixed a nice hexagon shelf bracket. I added a diagonal brace since the hexagons alone flexed way too much otherwise) and added a slot so that the top piece could be printed independently and flat and then simply slotted onto the supporting bracket. This also allowed for hiding the mounting screw at the top. And I additionally modified it so a slipcover can also hide the bottom mounting screw giving a very clean final look with no visible screws.

I also added variants - a middle holder with 5x build plate holder built in and end pieces with built in Honeycomb storage wall by RostaP | Download free STL model | Printables.com.

So, there are multiple pieces to the modular mounting system:

  • Wall bracket
  • Left side AMS mount top
  • Middle double AMS mount top
  • Middle double AMS mount top w/ integrated 5x build plate holder
  • Right side AMS mount top
  • Left side AMS mount w/ honeycomb storage wall
  • Right side AM mount w/ honeycomb storage wall
  • Bottom hole cover

Printing, at least for the brackets, should be done in PETG since PLA will likely creep with the constant weight. I found that one of my PETGs could bridge the slot gap fine another… not so much. So the profiles have supports enabled to maximize the print success rate. The tolerances are tight so that the top pieces don't slide away from the wall when installed so before installing to the wall you should make sure that the fit isn't too tight although. Due to the slight sag from bridging I found the fit was a little variable but even the tighter ones loosened up with a few insertions and removals - just don't use brute force to force it all the way on until you've loosened it up or you may never get it off! The addition of supports should make the prints more consistent and less likely to be overly tight - let me know if you find they've become a little too loose - we do want a bit of friction fit between brackets and mounts.

When installing make sure to measure very carefully to get the brackets exactly 16" apart. There is no slop on the AMS mounts so if you're off too much you'll not be able to get the AMS to sit on the mounts. If installing multiple be sure to measure multiples of 16" from one end instead of individual 16" increments to minimize measuring errors.

Since this is a modular system it is also possible to remix alternative wall brackets to suit your personal style. And alternative top pieces to add additional storage options. I'm working on expanding the options here.

I'd been dreading my first experience with ABS, but have printed these brackets with Bambu ABS using the Engineering plate in my X1C and they've come out flawlessly, couldn't be happier (even if i did run out of black part way through one bracket because my filament delivery got delayed).

I printed 2 centre brackets with plate storage, 1 centre bracket without plate storage, and 1 of each end bracket. I drilled 7mm holes in to my pegboard and inserted M5 Rivnuts to secure these wallmounts to, they're stable, but I have had to reinforce the (metal) pegboard as it did allow the AMS to sit on a slightly downward angle (hardly noticable unless you were standing at the workbench). Note that I have 2 AMS with 5 slots (one bought late December 2023 and the second mid January this year) and 2 with 3 slots (both bought within the last 2 weeks), the tabs on these printed brackets are too tight for the new 3 slot AMS units meaning that the AMS sits up and on a slight angle off them. I might need to file down the tabs slightly. Might be worth looking at a remix for these brackets to include a small screw hole that aligns with the screw holes which are used when shipping the AMS as a 'combo' inside the printers, that would ensure that the AMS is completely secured to these brackets.

Doesn't fit the new version AMS. Tabs do not line up that go into the side. Anyway you could provide f3d files for revisions?
