The Scaley Dragon Egg is the perfect home for your favourite 3D printed dragon! As my first organic design it features a super scaley texture, overhangs that can be printed for a smooth finish, and an addictingly easy to open and close thread ensuring a perfect alignment every time!

100% scale fits a Baby Cinderwing3D dragon or two Tadlings or a 65% Articulated Crystal Dragon by Saber3D (thanks to @GenghisKhan39)

150% scale fits a full size Cinderwing3D Crystal Dragon

200% scale fits a 125% Crystal Dragon (thanks to @BloodyBooger)

110% scale fits a a 75% Sabre3D Crystal Dragon (thanks to @kahems)

If you find what size fits other models, please comment and I'll update the description with credits to you.

I want to thank SprocketStudios for the inspiration. I found their design and loved it, but needed to fix some overhangs so I designed my own from scratch after learning Fusion360.

For those asking, the dragon picture is from Cinderwing3D and are available here

Did you need a support for the top portion inside?

Nope! I got one little dangling piece of filament at the very top but it bridged nicely and closed.

Looks great! If you play with the threads a few times you should find it seats to a perfect alignment with the scales and has an audible click as it aligns.

Beautiful and fits together great. But the bottom layer came off even after being incredibly careful removing it from the plate. The same thing happened with the same Bambu filament on a different print at the same layer height. Other prints, no problems. Not sure why. Bambu Silk Dual Color. Also, there is an odd finish layer on the top, but maybe that is normal? Gonna try a different type and see what happens.

Hi @UnHappyDan, I've found some silk PLA filaments are super soft and have poor layer adhesion. Haven't used Bambu Silk yet to say for sure. Thanks for your feedback and happy printing!

All is great!, although a full sized dragon is a lil bit if a pain to fit, it does fit. I think I'll make the next egg a percent or two larger.

I thought same 100% dragon is too fidelity to squeeze it in

This came out perfect. First one I made at 100% but didn’t quite fit the dragon. so up scaled it to 110% and the dragon fitted lovely. And it aligned perfectly when closed using the tri color filament. Great job on the design.

The dragon I used was from Articulated Crystal Dragon by Saber3D model 55289 it is scaled to 75% scale which was the original size from him.

I have been doing this with all my prototypes and wondered how long it would take for someone else to figure that out. Glad you like my design!
