Description

I had a damaged BOSE Double Cube speaker kicking about, so I thought I would put them to some use.

You can make 1 Pair of desktop speakers from just 1 double cube speaker, and each on their own will sound roughly 2 x louder with a slightly wider bass range than the original with its dual drivers.

You will need the following to make 1 pair of speakers:

  • 24 x 5mm x 2mm magnets (For the grills)
  • 2 x XT60 Panel Mount Connectors (Optional as I provide a cover plate you use instead)
  • Adhesive (Super Glue or Epoxy or Silicone)
  • 8 x M3 Threaded Inserts for the Optional TPU Feet
  • 8 x M3 x 6 or 8mm Button Head Bolts (For Feet)
  • 1 x Bose Double Cube Speaker (Make sure it’s like the one pictured)

Please note, this mod is for the more modern Bose Double Cube, not the Redline type or the very old original ones, as they use a completely different driver, the one in the modern double cube does not have any screw holes and has a large composite frame (Picture added)

I printed these from Pro PLA with Carbon Fibre and they have come out excellent, sound quality is far better with a much further extended base range, I recommend using these with the Bass Module from a set of Accustimass 5’s (AM5) or Similar, 2 of these is even better, avoid the AM3 as these ReBose Speakers will over power it as the their SPL is greatly increased over the standard single Cube found on the AM3 systems, frequency range goes lower than the original 250hz, closer to 150hz and rolls off rapidly to around 100hz so if you have a home theatre receiver and an active subwoofer, then I would target 100 to 150hz crossover point.

This build is also a great option if you have a pair of these Cubes and would like to make yourself a low cost surround sound system, 1 pair will give you 4 very loud speakers, combine these with a centre channel, active sub and a receiver with a built in crossover (most do these days) and your have a nice compact home theatre system or PC surround sound system.

I run mine with single AM5 Bass Module powered by a Behringer NX3000D and a nice DAC connected to my PC and it sounds extremely good, vocals are clear and loud and much more defined vs the stock cube setup, and the amount of volume you get out of these is impressive, at high power levels they are crystal clear and obscenely loud.

Ive added an image of an SPL level, not super accurate but good enough, at 113+db my ears are hurting, but the speakers are still clean and there is more in the tank, I have also added the EQ settings I use for the NX3000D, these same setings are good for the NX1000D as well, but if your crazy enough to use a NX6000D to run these, I thing you will need ear plugs as your going to send yourself deaf :)

I also have a nice speaker stand and the ReBose already has holes in the base ready for these speaker stands, you can find it here → NexGen 3D Speaker Stands
