Description

This a model of the Hughes-Lockheed Firebrand from Crimson Skies board and video games. I have designed it for multi color printing. This took a lot of testing to get the portions cutout and working together. All parts have been printed and glued together into the final model.

The biggest decision I made was cutting the fuselage and wings on the horizontal plane instead of printing on end. This allows a lower build height and less filament wastage on changing between 4 colors. There will be more noticeable stair stepping of the shallow angles but this cut the print time down by 10 hours and saved a tremendous amount of filament. The top and lower halves just need joined with glue. Then the wings glued onto the fuselage to complete the main body of the plane.

The parts of the model are as follows:

Fuselage - The main body of the plane which the canopy and wings attach to. Simply glue both halves together.

Wings - The wings have the engine fused on to them. Glue both halves together. Once dry align the top of wing (easily denoted by the higher arc of the engine) with the top of the fuselage and onto the appropriate side.

Fins - These glue onto the bottom of the wing mounted engines.

Engine parts - The engine detail parts glue onto the rear of each wing engine. The air intakes pieces glue onto the front of the engines.

Spinner parts - The spinners are made up of a center pegs which goes into the wing mounted engine. Then the inner spinner → Blade blue → outer spinner. Glue outer spinner onto peg and pressure fit the peg into the engine for future removal.

Guns - All gun parts are very thin and fragile. Glue on last to prevent damage.

Canopy - This part have 2 seats, a frame, and windshields. I printed my windshields in a transparent filament.

Blade blurs - These are very thin and may difficult to print due to bed adhesion. They are intended to give the effect of the blades spinning. I have included a simpler disc if you do not want to attempt printing these.

Stand - There is a base and arm. The arm is best printed hollow and with transparent PETG for best effect.
