Description

The Arecibo Message was an interstellar radio broadcast carrying basic information about humanity and Earth that was sent to the globular cluster Messier 13 in 1974. It lasted for three minutes and contained roughly 210 bytes of data separated into seven categories:

  • The numbers one to ten
  • The atomic numbers of the elements hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus, which make up DNA
  • The formulas for the chemical compounds that make up the nucleotides of DNA
  • The estimated number of DNA nucleotides in the human genome, and a graphic of the double helix structure of DNA
  • The dimension (physical height, 5'9") of an average man, a graphic figure of a human being, and the human population of Earth which was about 4 billion at the time
  • A graphic of the Solar System, indicating which of the planets the message is coming from. The Sun is on the left and the third planet Earth raised toward the human figure
  • A graphic of the Arecibo radio telescope and the dimension of the transmitting antenna dish

Insert a filament change command at Layer 36 in your slicer for the 2-color version.

For the magnetic versions you'll need three 8x3mm round magnets, or four 6x3mm. Increase scale by 1% if you have trouble fitting them. You'll need to apply a good bit of pressure on a flat surface to get them fully seated.
