Description

This is my advanced desiccant dryer box system which fits in the bambu spools.

You can print it without support.

--

Please note, due to some feedback I'm afraid that it might not always fit into all bambulab spools.
I will test this again as soon as possible with new spools and create alternative versions.

Update!

I recently encountered an issue with the existing design of filament spool baskets not fitting the latest Bambulab filament spools perfectly. After personally testing and confirming the compatibility problem, I made necessary adjustments to the design. This experience highlighted the importance of continuously updating designs to match evolving product dimensions and specifications.

Following my initial adjustments to the filament spool basket design for better compatibility with the latest Bambulab filament spools, I made further modifications to ensure an optimal fit.

Specifically, I reduced the height from 62 mm to 61 mm and increased the inner diameter by 1mm.

These changes have resulted in a version that fits very well for me.

Additionally, I adjusted the groove to match the changes in the new spools, as the groove's design also differed from the previous models.

Recognizing the variability in spool dimensions, I have also created a version that is 61 mm in height, providing another option for those who may need it.

To assist you in creating the perfect fit for your spools, I have also produced just the inner circle in three sizes:

  • the original 62 mm height - old version (V1),
  • the new 61 mm height - optimized version (V2),
  • and the 60 mm height - optional version (V3).

This allows you to test which version will ideally suit your needs before committing to a full print!

---

With this model, you can now place desiccants, whether they are loose, packaged, or stored in an AMS dry box, inside the spool.

This enables you to dry your desiccant in a device like the Sunlu Dryer.

However, it's essential to note that the model and the dry boxes, for example, are made from ABS, ASA, PC, due to the higher temperatures inside the dryer.

The model also fits four whole of the following AMS Silica Gel Dry Boxes.

This is ideal because you no longer have to transfer the silica gel pellets.

If you print the model on 60% infill and without top and bottom layers (0 layers), you will also automatically have the bottom as a grid ;-)

And I used 4 walls.

Print was okay, but part didn't fit to Bambu Spools. Neither in Z nor in X/Y axis. Model goes directly to the trash. 80g ABS wasted.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your experience with the 3D print model and the issues you faced with it not fitting in your Bambu spools. I originally designed the model based on the dimensions of one of my first Bambulab filament spools. Thanks to your feedback, I've retested the model with newer filament spools and found that it indeed no longer fits as well as it did. This prompted me to make adjustments to the model. To further assist users in avoiding material waste, I've also created test versions. These versions are designed to help determine the correct size for one's filament spool without having to print the entire model from ABS if unsure about the size needed I hadn't anticipated the possibility of the spool dimensions changing over time, which explains the shift from initially positive to negative reviews. I hope you'll consider giving the model another chance with the updated versions available. Thank you for your feedback. That was necesseray to improve the design.

Thank you very much for your detailed response. I have immediately changed the rating, as this was obviously not your fault. I design myself here on Makerworld and know that there are sometimes unforeseen problems one has to deal with. The design and the idea itself are great! All the best going forward!

Thank you for your understanding! I am very happy to see that so many people like the idea and the feedback also helps me to recognise when, for example, the dimensions of filament spools have been changed. Thank you! :)

Printed in PLA and stuck to spool broke after removing. if you print it make sure in PETG or ABS

Unfortunately, I have also noticed that the dimensions of the inner part in the newer Bambulab filament spools are slightly larger than in older filament spools. I have just tested it myself and found it difficult to get my old version out. For this reason, I have also improved this in a new version so that it is easier to remove.

Too tall for bambu filament rolls. you literally cant screw them together at all so its a complete loss. cool design though but will not fit bambu filament rolls.

I have just tried to put my old print into a new Bambulab spool and it doesn't work anymore. There are different dimensions for different Bambulab filament spools! I have now created different versions and also corresponding test versions if you are not sure. Maybe you can give the model another chance or see if you can still find a suitable filament spool :)

I did not read the comments. I also printed this and it does not fit the Bambu Labs reusable spools or spools from old filament. You can't click the spools half's together because it's too high. Very disappointing. Was looking forward to using this in my filament storage system.

Yes, you're right! There are small differences in the dimensions of the filament spools I have from Bambulab. I have now created new optimised versions so that you can include them in your filament storage system. I hope you like them :)

I have the white bambu spools, and I needed to shorten the z axis of the print, just 2mm. And made the entire print, just 1% bigger on the Y and X. I also made the notch just a bit deeper. Printing it now, and will report back if the tweaks are correct.
