Description

In March 2023 finally the first “Einstein” was discovered! As a big fan of the Penrose Tiles, especially P2 (kites and darts), i read an article on derStandard (german) today and i just needed to make this happen.

In this article i found a variation with some Truchet-like markings by Dan Piker added - but unfortunately, those pattern will result in an overhang that is not easily printable without an MMU or AMS

so i took the edges of this pattern, made it wider and added some inlays to it and also extrapolated this concept to the second shape (the turtle)

Printing

you only need one piece as many times as you like, either the Hat or the Turtle - they are not meant to be combined (though they share the same sizes and proportions)

if you want to print those, i've provided you with multiple different approaches:

AMS / MMU

just use the file and print it in 2 colors

glue in colored pattern

use the version with tolerances and print the parts separately and glue the inlays in after completion - takes a bit more time, but looks nice

layer change

the piece is 3 mm thick, the center piece is 1 mm - so at 0,2 mm layer height after 5 layers change the color to the contrast for the pattern and then change it back after a few other lines

plain

just print them plain, without a highlighted pattern (one color needed, no supports, just a few bridges - i recommend using a light filament, since on darker filaments the pattern can't be seen well

not yet satsified?

if this still does not fit your needs: feel free to drop me a line - if somebody wants to lasercut those out of 3 mm PMMA or Plywood, i can provide an SVG/DXF if there is demand
