QTY: 2

M3 Heat-Set Inserts

The holes are sized at 5mm so if your insert needs a different insert size, I've included the Fusion 360 file if you would like to modify yourself. I purchased these from McMaster but they are Dodge Ultraset II Inserts.

QTY: 8

M3x25mm Button Head Screws

QTY: 8

WAGO 221-412 2-Conductor Compact Splicing Connectors

You can splice however you would like but these connectors are easy to connect/modify if required.

QTY: 2

JST 2.54mm 2-Pin Female Pigtail

You can re-use the existing harness but requires you to cut and splice into it.

QTY: 1

INSTRUCTIONS

DISASSEMBLY/FAN INSTALLTION:

1) Remove the fan/heater diffuser by removing the QTY: 2 Philips head screws.

2) Remove the QTY: 4 Philips head screws to remove the upper dryer body top cover to gain access to the dryer internals. As you remove the top cover, notice the thermistor wire is connected to the front display panel. I found it easier to unplug this so you can set the top cover aside while you complete the remaining steps.

3) Unplug the fan's 2 Pin Female JST connector from the main board.

4) Carefully remove the fan and it's padding from the unit. The fan is attached with QTY: 2 Philips head screws and adhesive back padding underneath. Removing the QTY: 3 Philips head screws that hold the heater column duct and moving that out of the way can give you more access. A heat gun can be used to aid in the removal of the adhesive backed padding. Once all of the padding is removed, ensure there is no adhesive remaining on the dryer body. I used Goo-Gone to help remove the adhesive while being mindful not to get any on the electronics around it.

5) Once the fan is removed, you can now start prepping the new fan duct for installation. Install the QTY: 8 Heat-Set Inserts into the printed fan duct.

6) Using the M3x25mm button head screws, attach the fans to the fan duct. The flow arrows on the fan must point inward towards the duct/heater to ensure proper airflow.

7) Attach the assembled fan & duct assembly to the lower dryer body using the original screws. I added a loop clamp to hold the fan wires.

ELECTRICAL:

1) Connect the provided Omni Join pig-tail adaptor set to each fan connector. Strip a section from each of these wires and splice/twist the ends together for each color (Red to Red, Black to Black). Insert the spliced wires into port 1 of the WAGO connector for each color. Using your JST 2 Pin Female pigtail connector or existing fan wiring, strip and insert the wires into port 2 of the WAGO connectors, matching the wire colors.

2) Plug the JST connector back into the main board.

3) Carefully/briefly power up the unit to check fan rotation and ensure the airflow is moving upward through the duct/heater. You will need to re-connect the thermistor if you removed it in a previous step.

NOTE: Mains voltage present!

NOTE: Thermistor is not in the correct location with the main body top cover off so temperature regulation will NOT operate as intended. Do not run the dryer for more than a few seconds as the heater will be running unregulated with incorrect temperature feedback.

4) If rotation/flow are correct, proceed to re-assembly. Otherwise double check your wiring.

RE-ASSEMBLY:

1) Re-connect the thermistor wire to the front control panel prior to placing the main body top cover back on the dryer lower body.

2) Secure the top cover re-using the QTY: 4 Philips head screws previously removed.

3) Secure the heater diffuser using the QTY: 2 Philips head screws previously removed.

4) Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Printdry PRO silent fan modification. Monitor dryer and verify dryer is functioning as intended.

I have a PrintDry 2. Will pull it apart to see if it is the same internally as your photos of the 3.

Just had a look - unfortunately the fan mechanics are completely different. I've sent some pics to your facebook post.

I had an aging PrintDry II, which was VERY noisy. So purchased the latest PRO version, and while quieter, it had a horrible frequency sound that I could not bear any longer! So printed your mod and purchased the Noctura fans. Assembled it all today and very happy with the result - you've made my work space bearable again! Thank you :)
