Description

Saw these Christmas lightbox decorations at our local supermarket with my daughter. After her first attempt with TinkerCAD (https://makerworld.com/en/models/58172#profileId-59905), she's confident that she could model them herself. Honestly, I think it's a bit ambitious for her. But hey! It's a good learning experience and should be encouraged, right?

So, she spent at least an hour a day after school and more hours on the weekend, even restricting herself from her Netflix time. Upon reaching 80% completion, we noticed another designer/Makerworld user took the same inspiration. She was a bit upset and wanted to quit, fearing she might be accused of plagiarism. So, I suggested that we change the design from a one-sided lightbox to a two-sided one and add more patterns, hoping that you all can support her young passion. All in all, it took her more than one week, and these are her results. All I did was point her in the right direction when she was stuck and offered some tips here and there.

Just print the main lightbox and two pattern frames or lithophanes, one for each side; put an LED tea light inside before closing the box with the lithophane/frame. There are a few to choose from, but we have also included the blank frame and blank panel for lithophane if you want to personalize your lightbox.

Please check the 8-pointed star (https://makerworld.com/en/models/70214#profileId-74525), and Christmas tree (https://makerworld.com/en/models/70245#profileId-7458) light box as well.

hey, thanks a lot for uploading these! How did you create a custom lithophane background for the star?

Thanks for your interest. If you could clarify which model you're interested in or if you're looking to create a custom lithophane, that would be helpful. Let me know what you aim to achieve.

hey, thanks so much for getting back to me. I am trying to embed a lithophane image on the 5 point star panel such that it's contained inside the frame nicely. I have somehwat succeeded going the online tool route. I have found a website which supports the 5-point star shape and created a lithophane with my image there, and then assembled that on top of the star panel with frame. This works but feels like the 'wrong not so pro' way to go about it. It's also limiting in the sense that I can only work with whatever shapes pre-exist on the online tool, and none lets you upload a new stl shape for modelling with. I have played a bit inside the slicer trying to properly embed a rectangular lithophane over the star shape using mesh booleans, but I have not succeeded. Was wondering if you have a more streamlined process to achieve this and whether you could point me in the right direction :) pic related with the progress so far.
