Description

This drain clean-out tool is modified from a remix I found made by the user, dmitche. I liked how he resized an original longer 3D print to fit the build plate of printers like the Bambu Labs X1 Carbon and P1P. But like every other version of this tool I found online? He was printing it with TPU so it would be flexible enough to use it.

I wanted to make one that would work with the PETG filament I had on-hand. By cutting its thickness down from 3mm to roughly half that, and changing the parameters for the infill - I wound up with this one that's still flexible with PETG, while not being too flimsy. I successfully cleared the hair out of my bathroom sink drain with it about 20 minutes ago!

gets stuck easily

Yeah... depending on the type of drain you have, I can see how it could get stuck. In the past, though? The smaller ones I've used with shorter "teeth" didn't really clear my drain well without doing a lot of "fishing", trying to get them to catch on whatever obstructions were in the pipe. Luckily, it doesn't use much filament or take long to print one of these -- so hopefully not a big loss if it didn't work well for you!

Decided to print 5 in a single plate, it worked perfectly. but the slicer won't arrange them automatically. The design is great, and will print many more as needed.

Even PETG breaks. Maybe TPU would work better to prevent broken parts getting stuck in the drain.

Sure … TPU is really flexible but pretty tough to tear as long as you print it with several layers on the top and bottom. I didn’t try that material because I wanted something that wouldn’t just bend or curl up if I pushed it down a drain and it hit a clog. I thought it would be better if it could poke through one. But every plumbing situation is probably different. I didn’t have this one break on me here.

Worked great, you should be gentle when pushing through the drain, the same concept that lets it grab hair also grabs structure inside your drain. Wiggling side to side makes it easier to use... Worked perfectly..even better the wife got to see it in action a win for 3d printing!!!
