Description

Operating Principle

This is still very much a work in progress and its effectiveness is still under investigation. It definitely vary from blaster to blaster. Message me with any feedback.

Imagine a triangle the three points are PT Size, Barrel ID and Barrel Length.

The Acorn works well with anyone point being more prominent and shines with under barrel systems. It will and can work with over barrel or matched systems but in those cases you have to have good seals and a tight ID (.509 or Brass) So that the air from your PT is not lost by the time it reaches the end of the barrel. So bear that in mind when using this.

If you feel like your not seeing a huge effect try running one fps step below where you actually are (or more if needed). It is only a guess but it may help.

Printing

This is an incredibly forgiving print. You can print it with the curved top on the bed and no supports. Or place the base on the bed and enable supports if you're concerned with bed adhesion issues.

Whatever your usual settings are should work great but I suggest at least 3 or 4 walls for strength and to make the air channel wall all walls.

FPS RANGES

  1. 110 - 130
  2. 140 - 180
  3. 190 - 230
  4. 300

Lock Sleeve

Place the bottom part over the barrel and slide it down. Then place the Acorn on the barrel and twist the bottom piece in place.

Collet

Collet on first then screw the Acorn on to it. You can try and use a tiny o-ring if you need to as well.

Clamp

M3 screw and nut. Depending on your tolerances it might not actually need the hardware.

The Story

The Acorn as featured on FNC got it start as a combination of a hair brain idea and some great ground work by @Midwestt. His original file is no longer published but it prompted me to use my very fledging cad skills to recreate it. After some rather successful results from mostly educated guess work I showed it to @Redcowl on the nerf discord who become an incredibly helpful and integral part of the development of the Acorn.

He let me use his collet attachment, got some incredible BCAR information from another designer (I will credit him if he wishes but I have not confirmed that yet), did the math for the FPS groupings and helped with extensive testing and even helped secure the lock and sleeve mechanism.

After months of testing and some rather funny slow motion video with to much spin on higher fps darts we had a handful of people help us test the design with incredible results that far exceeded our expectations or plans.
