Description

Sometimes the simplest quick things are the most satisfying, but can frustrating to get right. I spent more time modeling this than I'd like to admit…

Let this halo collection get you off the hook when you're in need of a quick costume/party/Halloween prop!

Options:

The following pre-baked options are provided for you. If you don't love them, there's a Fusion360 file included where you can tweak lots of parameters!

  • ClipLess
    • These are the simplest halos that can either fit on your head and stay there due to the flexibility of the floppy circle, or may be glued to a typical metal french barrette clip like this one to make your own clip. They come in variety of sizes , listed by inner diameter in from 168 mm to 143 mm in 5 mm steps. For example:
      • ClipLess_168mm.3mf (this is the green one shown in the photo with me wearing it, no clip attached, it just stays there on my low-hair head).
      • They are all only 0.6 mm thick, which makes them a little floppy, but helps them fit if you're using no clip. If you want a different thickness, you can tweak the thickness parameter in the Fusion360 file.
  • WithComb
    • These have a built in 3D-printed comb designed to slot into heads with more hair (often women, but not always). The comb arc is designed to end up such that the halo rests at an angle on the hair. Smaller halos with thicker circles work well here, as the floppiness of the larger halos can fight against the clip.
      • Options are provided in a variety of diameters with a thicker default 1.2 mm halo thickness. If this is too much for you, the Fusion360 file will let you customize.
      • Prebaked sizes (halo inner diameter):
        • Example: Halo_WithClip_153mm
        • 153 mm - 133 mm (in 5 mm steps)

How to Print:

  • This should be fairly obvious, but flat on the bed. The combs should be fine with PLA or PETG. I used 0.2 mm layer height, and the default sizing above assumes those layer heights. I recommend 100% infill for the halos.

Filament Choice:

Works well in PLA, or PETG. Printing on a textured PEI plate brings out a sparkling effect on the surface. Transparent PETGs will have the advantage of glowing through when backlit (as will some PLAs.
