This a Batman figure modeled after Batman: The Animated Series with styling by Bruce Timm.

Watching Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) and Justice League Unlimited animated shows, back in the day, I was introduced to Bruce Timm's minimalist, angular outlines and I loved his designs ever since. I thought that with this simplified contours, I don't need to know anatomy and would be able to draw/sculpt his characters. I collected reference materials and studied this particular style in hopes that one day I will be able to draw characters in this style.

Life happened and 30 years after, with the tools available today, I finally had the time and courage to learn digital sculpting. It was a dream come true being able to sculpt and 3D print Bruce Timm's version of Batman.

Throughout the sculpting process, I made sure the overall minimalist styling, angular contours and the face sculpt are accurate to the animated version but reduced some of the exaggerated proportions to improve it further. Hope you like it!

PRINTING & ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Select between the available scales:
    1. 1/12 (6in. tall, minus the base) - ideal if you want a bigger model for display and do not have a 0.2mm nozzle
    2. 1/18 (4in. tall, minus the base) - choose this scale if you want a smaller figure that could fit a small desk or display case (requires 0.2mm nozzle).

  2. Print the parts as oriented in the profiles. Supports are required on some areas of the model. The profiles have all the supports set already.

The eyes go in as one piece. They go into the eye sockets from the inside but not all the way through. Use a tweezer to get the eyes in.

  3. Use glue/adhesive to attach the parts.

  4. BE CAREFUL removing the supports from the cowl as area especially the mask is thin and could detach along with the supports.

FILAMENTS USED

  • cowl, cape, boots: Polymaker Polyterra Charcoal Black
  • belt: Savannah Yellow
  • body: Matter Hackers Build PLA Silver
  • eyes: Inland PLA White
  • face: Inland PLA Pastel Pink

Head was a little bit difficult to print and to assemble

Looks great! Thanks for the feedback and the rating! Yeah, I agree the head is a little fiddly to assemble coz it has really small parts but it's still doable. Just needed some bit of patience. My prototype has the face mask split in half but it didn't look good so I settled with this version instead. I sacrificed for some assembly difficulties for better aesthetics.

Beau modèle facile à imprimer, juste l'assemblage de la tête un peu compliqué mais très beau résultat au final. Impression avec du filament PLA jaune et gris de chez ELEGOO et noir carbone de chez SUNLU.

This was a great print with an excellent profile. I had to reprint the cowl due to the face mask portion breaking off with the supports, another profile here of just the cowl did the job for me. All in all it came out great though.

MASK ONLY BETTER SUPPORTS - 0.12mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill
This was a much improved orientation for me. the only downside was that the PolyTerra PLA was a little marred by the supports. I used a Sharpie (black permanent marker) to color the two affected spots. Otherwise the front section came out fantastic, which was what had broken off from the original on my first run.
