Description

Whilst using some of the earlier vices I have designed and 3D Printed I noticed that there was a design flaw, when applying pressure the jaw attached to the screw can jump up, I was trying to push 2 components together at the time and probably applying too much force, these vices are 3D printed in PLA so I was probably expecting too much.

Anyways I thought I would have a go at designing and printing a rail type vice, where the jaw attached to the screw drive slides on rails, this would eliminate that problem, for this particular vice some hardware is needed, I already had some 5mm solid bar which I cut down to 100mm I also had some 5mm Linear bearings these are 15mm long, the components are not expensive and it does make for a far better vice, the components were purchased on Amazon UK when I bought them.

I did cut the bar on a the model engineers vice I made earlier which made things so much easier, but try not to get too close when cutting or it could get hot and melt the pla.

You could probably buy the bar in 100mm lengths I guess then no cutting involved.

At the end of the screw drive is the same adapter I've used on the previous hobby vices.

I do have an idea for another vice, so please watch this space.

Thanks very much for looking.
