Santa’s reindeer fly. No one knows exactly how, but they do. This display depicts the moment Santa’s reindeer taking off the ground.

If you wonder where the harness and the rein are, harness has been replaced with ultrasound waves, and rein are no longer needed since the reindeer team have been doing this for so long they are sort of on autopilot now. And don’t worry, Santa hasn’t laid off any of his reindeer. This small team run is to test out the newly-lubed sleigh to make sure all systems go when the big night comes.

As a bonus, this display spins. When in the mood, grab Santa’s sleigh and turn the platform clockwise to wind it up, then watch the reindeer do a slow motion takeoff, or maybe Santa has gained some weight and the load is heavier than expected.

Easily print with PLA. Easy assembly, no rubber bands, no screws, no glue. Instructions are provided for assembly and use. Photos are extensively used in the step-by-step instructions for easy following.

There are several print profiles, as described below. Use of these supplied print profiles is recommended to save time and to ensure a good printing experience.

Platform.3mf

This is the base that has the windup mechanism and the platform for Santa and the reindeer.

Platform_For_A1_mini.3mf

This is the same as above except that it has one more plate because A1 mini’s build plate is smaller.

The following are multi-color prints. No print uses more than 4 colors so only one AMS is needed. Color swapping is done by layer height range to reduce the number of filament swaps and filament waste.

SantaOnSleigh.3mf I used white, red, yellow, and gold (brown will work as well)

Reindeer.3mf I used white, light brown, brown, and red.

Tree.3mf I used white and green. Tree trunk is single color in brown.

LooseTolerance_Base_Wheel.3mf

This will print the platform base and wheel that has loose tolerance ( basically the holes on them are bigger), in case some printers don’t have good enough printing precision. NOTE: ONLY print this if the regular ones in the Platform.3mf are too tight to allow the escapement mechanism to work. Most Bambu Lab printers have good precision.

Please also note the following:

1. Please do not increase the wall count or infill. Doing so can increase the weight of the parts and affect the performance.

2. It may be tempting to print the coil in PETG for more flexibility. In this design though, a PETG coil will not have enough strength to make the toy work. For the same reason, PLA is recommended over PLA+ for the coil to have the strength in stiffness.
