Description

This card kit makes a customizable Halloween haunted house diorama. The trees, pumpkins, ghosts, and tombstones are all interchangeable. Mix and match to make your own creation!

  • Great for party favours; print in different colours and swap with friends!
  • Multi-colour ready
  • Separate (not attached to a card) pieces are also included in the .3mf

Happy Halloween and Happy Printing!

Tolerances and fit

All pieces should fit snugly. The smaller pieces are a bit fiddly due to their size. I recommend assembling with the smallest pieces first, followed by the gate, the tree(s), and, finally, the house.

IMPORTANT: print the tolerance test first. Minor differences in filament flow can mean the difference between fitting and not fitting. This test is comprised of three pieces from the model as this is the most accurate way to gauge how well it will fit.

  • Too tight? Change the X-Y hole compensation setting to 0.05 mm and reprint. Adjust up or down as needed.
  • Too loose? Change the X-Y hole compensation setting to -0.05 mm and reprint. Adjust up or down as needed.

Print Settings

The .3mf files include my recommended print settings:

  • Nozzle size: 0.4 mm (don't change as it may prevent pieces from fitting together)
  • Plate type: Smooth PEI Plate/High Temp Plate (best results)
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm (don't change as it may prevent pieces from fitting together)
  • First layer speed: 15 mm/s (slow to prevent small details from coming loose from the plate)
  • Wall order: outer/inner (for the same reason as above)
  • Wall generator: Classic (don't use Arachne because it will throw off the tolerances)
  • Brim: none

Filament settings

  • This model has been tested using the default uncalibrated “Generic PLA” preset with multiple filaments from various manufacturers.
  • If you find that the top surfaces are rough, reduce filament flow ratio. Caution: this may change fit so reprint the tolerance test first.
  • If you're using a custom filament preset, your results may vary.
  • Display models were printed in PLA as follows: Orange (Eryone), Grey (Eryone), Purple (AMZ3D), and Black (AMZ3D).

Multicolour

  • The model is AMS multicolour ready and provided pre-painted.
  • If you prefer to paint it yourself, I recommend leaving the first layer as one colour as it will help with adhesion. However, each bottom surface is isolated and paintable if you should so choose.
  • DON'T print your multicolour masterpiece without first printing the tolerance test!
  • Print four at a time to reduce filament waste (X1C and P1P/S only; A1 mini can only fit one)

About the model

I've always enjoyed card kits and thought it would be fun to design my own to hand out at Halloween to trick or treaters. As with most things I create, it became more complicated as I went on and I lost the original intent of being an all-ages kit. However, I did wind up with what I think is a fun miniature diorama that older kids and adults might enjoy. If this kit is well received, I may design diorama kits for other holidays. Let me know what you think!

P.S. I'm working on a simpler kit for younger users; I will update this when it's published. Update: done! Find it here.

Licensing

This kit is non-commercial and may not be sold, reproduced, or shared outside of this website. However, I will consider an individual license fee if you wish to sell printed models in your local area such as at a craft show. Please contact me for details.

Only thing I changed was the plate. Didn’t even do a fit test. Went for it and it was perfect!

Thank you for sharing it! I forgot I was going to say I saw it on reddit and thought it was so cute and honestly I don't do a lot of multi colored prints like this because I hate the waste it produces but at the same time it's just so cute! That's also why I decided to do four, get the most out of the excess it's going to use anyway :)

Looks really great! Love kit cards and I don't think I've ever seen one that creates a whole scene like this, well done! Side note: your 'Single colour' profile has multiple plates on it

Thank you very much! I think perhaps I chose a poor word to describe it. By single colour, I meant that it's not painted. The other two plates are 4 on a plate and the tolerance test. Edit: decided to remove the extra plates so as to provide a better estimate of time and filament usage.
