Description

Add a little retro to you desk with this cassette tape shaped tape dispenser. Includes authentic rattle when shaken!

Holds two rolls of standard cellophane tape (aka Scotch tape) in a large oversized, or compact and near 1:1 retro cassette. Side opening help keep track of how much is left on the primary and spare rolls. Print in your favorite colors and customize the labels for just the right look!

If you print he large version, don't forget to print my oversized pencil for some rewinding goodness: https://makerworld.com/en/models/19545

The compact version is 60% scale of the large size. This makes it nearly the exact size of an actual cassette, just thicker. The compact hub also has an adapter that fits into the tape roll then over the hub. I found it best to insert the tape in use into the rear slots furthest from the cutter and put an empty hub into the other slot. This provides room in the finger opening to grab the tape.

If the cutter teeth break or fail to print correctly they can be replaced without printing the entire body. Be sure to print the cutter flat to provide more strength and definition to the teeth. Some adjustment to the cutter's thickness (z scale) may be needed if the fit is tool tight or loose.

Supports shouldn't be necessary for the cassette body. The hubs should be printed on end with no supports.

For the labels, printed the included PDF. I used (terrible) self-adhesive shipping labels for mine. Cut them out (yes, the circles are a pain, but take your time) and stick onto each side of the cassette. Add a personal touch by labeling it as you would a mix type or favourite album ;)

Push tape roll onto a hub until it rests between the two ridges. If the roll is very difficult to get on you may need to file down the ridges just a bit.

Insert the hub in from the bottom and push up until they snap into place. The tape on the hub closest to the finger opening loops over the top and can be cut with the spiked cutter. The second hub holds a spare roll of tape. Once in place, you can rotate the hubs with your finger, or print a scaled-up pencil for a more authentic feel.

A few rubber feet or pads on the bottom would be great to keep it place on your desk.

nice! I made and 3d printed my own cassette label(needs a little tweaking) since I don’t have a regular printer.
