Description

I wanted a stand for my Ingco pliers set that held them tip-down. Since they have springs in the hinge I didn't want them hanging upright, and they have a nice ergo feature that makes a good stable catch for placing them face down.

Print two of the frames, then as many of the spacers as you want. You can cut some adhesive anti-slip pads for the little squares on the bottom, a 7mm x 20mm rectangle. There are larger and smaller spacers provided in the raw files if you'd like.

You'll need a ¼" dowel, four times the length of whatever you decide to assemble. I used the dowel from an old yard flag. Start with a pair of 15mm “thimble” spacers on one end to make it a 20mm usable space, then stack on as many spacers as you'd like. The provided profile renders 7x 20mm slots, enough for a set of six plus that one good one you have laying around that you're not quite sure where you got it from. Please note the number imprinted on the spacer does not include the 2mm for the separator, just the usable space!

Assemble it with eight #4 wood screws (3mm) and the ¼" dowels. Each base will take 6mm of dowel in the receiver, so add up the following:

  • 6mm for each frame
  • the number on the spacer + 2mm (the width of the separator)
  • repeat for however many spacers
  • any extra tubes or thimbles printed

So for me (and in the profile):

  • two frames (6+6=12)
  • one 13mm spacer (13+2=15)
  • five 20mm (20+2=22 x5=110)
  • and a thimble (15mm)
    SO 12+15+110+15=152mm

I used a dowel from an old yard flag, cut four pieces 154mm long just for good luck, and drilled some tiny little pilot holes in the ends since I only had some rather large #6 screws (which caused the dowel to split, but still be usable). I'd still suggest pilot holes even with the #4 screws.
