Description

This design provides ventilation holes on top of the printer to allow hot air to come out, thus preventing the chamber temperature from getting too high to cause a clog when printing low temperature filaments such as PLA. The ventilation holes can be closed when printing high temp materials.

In terms of design philosophy, it goes for simplicity and reliability. Instead of using sliding panels or rotating flaps to open or close the vent holes, it simply uses big open vent holes for less restricted air flow when open, and well-fitted plugs to close the holes for good insulation when needed. Having no intricate moving parts makes it more reliable to use. Aesthetically, it has a simple and clean look.

Print profile is provided. The 3MF file has 4 plates. The first 3 plates are to be printed with PETG so the top vent can be used while printing high temp filaments. The last plate is the plugs storage tray, to be printed with PLA. No support is needed. If one decides to download the raw STL files, please be notified that not all the parts come with correct orientation on build plate. In Bambu Studio, the Auto Orient feature can be used to place the parts correctly onto the build plate.

Easy assembly and installation. Instructions are in a PDF file among the STL files for download. Photos are extensively used in the step-by-step instructions for easy following.

Prototyping and testing were done on X1 carbon printers. It has not been tested on any other printers.

Other materials needed: Insulation tapes about ½ inch wide and 1/8 inch thick. This is for providing a good seal between the glass lid and the top vent, to absorb vibration and to protect the glass lid. I chose not to use TPU prints because some printers have been reported having trouble printing TPU. Also an insulation tape provides better seal and protection. I put the link to the tape that I use from Amazon in the instruction because external links are not allowed here in the description.

This is a great design, I wonder if it can fit under my existing riser which is not vented. I will give this a try and report back.

Message from the designer: The Model and the print profile that were first uploaded on 11/02/2023 turned out to be an older version that were uploaded inadverdently. The model and the print profile were replaced with the correct version early morning of 11/04/2023. My apologies. Even though Bambu Studio doesn't show an error message (one of the reasons I didn't catch on it ealrier), the older version may have overhang issues on two parts if the printer and the fllament are not dialed in. If a user downloaded the model or the print profile before the update this morning, and have issues, please download the model or print profile again and reprint these two parts only: Side_Left.stl (the long piece on Plate 1) and Side_Right.stl (the long piece on Plate 2). The other parts of the model are the same between the older version and the correct version.
