Description

Shared the updated version with sligtly bigger magnet clearance.

"Remodeled my original Contemporary Dice Tower/Storage from scratch to make it printable without supports and provide a fully enclosed mini storage so that it's not possible to get jammed in the outer sleeve. The mini storage compartment is also considerably deeper.

Description

I've designed a dice tower that also doubles as storage for your dice and a single mini, perfect for Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletop RPGs. I've built in a knurled ring around the bottom to easily rotate the inner tower to expose the opening/exit to the tower, the mini storage compartment, or seal up the box.

Print Settings

STLs are oriented in the optimal way for printing. I printed in PLA with .1mm layer height, 15% infill, and 2 perimeters.

Depending on the cooling capabilities of your printer, this model should be printable without supports (especially at .1mm). If you're having trouble, consider using paint on supports in PrusaSlicer to address the problem areas (and minimize material waste and post processing time).

Optionally, you can glue in 4x 6mmx3mm neodymium magnets to help the tower to snap in to place in optimal positions: storage, dice rolling, and allowing access to the storage compartment for your mini.

Alternate Outer Sleeves

I've provided alternate outer sleeves for the dice tower:

  • bars
  • birds
  • bricks
  • diamonds
  • hexagons
  • hexagons (denser mesh)
  • hexagons (space amoeba)
  • hearts
  • solid

Update April 10th 2023

Based on feedback from users struggling to get the magnets into the holes, I've increased the clearance to 6.2mm. All new files are Updated Files directory. I've moved the original uploads to a new directory called Original Files (out of precaution since I'm not sure what happens to my model stats if I delete them.)"

Turned out awesome. Used Geeetech PLA Transparent and Sunlu PLA Marble. Currently working on combining this with the DND Tracker Tool, countersinking it so the tower stands a bit more stable.

I read some other reviews about the top being tight. So I increased the top to 101% and it worked great. Still had a few artifacts I had to remove, but that's normal on a print with so many holes. Still worked good with the magnets at 101%

I was disappointed. the first outer shell was way too weak. the second cracked when we put it on but it’s still usable.

Nice. I used silk PLA for the outer sleeve and I think it wasn't totally dry so there were a few small defects. But I think that didn't have anything to do with the profile - I just need to dry the silk PLA a bit more next time. But even though it is a little tight (probably because of the defects not making things quite as smooth as they should be) it works fine functionally. I'll probably print one of the other sleeve options later and try out an alternative look
