Description

This my my own version of the AMS filament guide to prevent wear to the plastic filament feeders. This snaps in place with minimal effort and stays secure even during filament changes.

The design has a centering funnel that keeps the filament from touching the OEM filament guide at all. All you have to do is jam a piece of 4mm OD PTFE tubing in the top, until it bottoms out in the funnel, and flush cut it at the top. (Razors, Box Cutters, Flush Cut Snips, all work fine) The PTFE tube relief also keeps the filament from touching any part of the printed filament guide, hopefully preventing any wear debris from entering the filament stream.

The elements that clip the part to the OEM filament feeder have built in reliefs and some reinforcement to prevent them from cracking or breaking off.

Lastly, there are 2 different models. The one labeled “AMS Filament guide - Light Block” has an extra round extension to mostly cover the white indicating LED next to each feeder in the AMS. I like to leave the printer on most of the time, but the LED's are very bright when I am doing things at night. (e.g. watching Movie's, trying to sleep) This blocks most of the up/forward light, but still allows you to see their status.

0.16mm layer height works, but 0.2mm also works. Make sure you use ARACHNE wall generation and 2 Wall Loops. I printed in PLA but I imagine other materials work fine as well.

Disclaimer: I only have one fairly new AMS. I know this fits my AMS perfectly, but I do not know if there are variations in manufacturing tolerances or changes to the AMS design over time. If you experience fitment issues, let me know (with some measurements) and I would be happy to try and make an adjusted version.
