Description

As eSUN sends plastic or cardboard spools randomly, I aimed to design an adapter that performs better than the typical ring adapters. Thus, I created this one as part of the CBAS series.

The spool is VERY tight to fit in the AMS, and the filament may run a bit on the feeder at the beginning, but for me, it loaded and unloaded without any problems.

The spool needs around 158 grams of filament with 15% infill, making it not lightweight but rather sturdy and smooth-running. So far it has always fit perfectly into the spools core. The Silica Compartment Lids add approximately another ~16 grams.

Updates

24/02/09 More LSM variants

Added LSM labeling for more eSUN materials.

23/01/02 Silica compartment lid update

Added the Silica Compartment Lid (SCL) - with this cover, the spools core can be sealed, allowing it to be filled with silica bags or loose beads. Loose beads should be bigger than 1.5mm, as smaller beads may pass through the air slots. For easier tightening and loosening of the SCL, you can find the TwistAssist listed under accessories below. The SCL is only compatible with prints printed from files tagged with the SCL label.

Changed the default print profile to the SCL version. The SCL variant remains compatible with older versions. It gains approximately ~4 grams in weight.

23/12/27 Label space module update

Profiles for the label space modules (LSM) have been added, labeled with the most common filaments as well as an unlabeled variant - unlabeled also available as .step file.

23/12/20 New default

Set the label space module spool as the default print profile. The spool now has an additional 10 grams of weight but remains fully compatible with the old version.

23/12/17 - Added Label Space Module

A new spool version has been added. With this spool, a designated area known as the Label Space Module (LSM) can be inserted into the available spaces. This module can be covered with stickers or printed with text as desired.

This spool needs around 154 grams of filament with 15% infill and both parts are compatible with the non label space module parts.

Assembly

To assemble, first remove a cardboard side of the eSUN spool and replace it with a printed half, some of the glue residue may need to be removed. Hold the spool and turn it over, then remove the other side, now screw the halves together until they are tight.

The label space module can be inserted into both parts of the spool, preferably when the spool is not yet loaded, and it may require some effort depending on your printer.

The SCL can be easily screwed into the thread of one of the spool cores.

It's best to wrap the filament with painter's tape beforehand to prevent it from unwinding on its own.

Accessories

This spool is part of the CBAS series and can make use of these accessories.

Danke

Prints without issue and the fit is perfect, we will see how it fits together over time but so far it feels like a solid design! Printed with eSUN ABS+ Huge thanks for supplying these!

Hi! Would you be able to share the step file for this model? I would like to add an area to place sticker for filament brand and color. Thanks!

Hey - maybe i can get the files up this weekend - will likely be late sunday. But a version with some sort of place or printed part is "in the works" - just need a bit of time to finish the sketches.

Sweet! Nice addition you did also with the label module! Have printed one complete spool adapter and it works very good! Solid feeling and good weight on it! Will leave a rating and picture soon! :)

save me from all the jam with recycle spool holder from eSun. The label is rather hard to be places as there are notches on them but on the spool holder there isn't any. Was this on purpose?

Hey - sorry to hear you got some hard time - it seems your file/print is "older" or before the LSM update if you have no counterpart to the notches of the LSM. The .stl or .3mf should have "LSM" in the name - only files with this are compatible to the LSM.

Noted. Amazing design. Save me lots of problem in jamming my AMS.

Due to ESUN company's recent change in the aperture of the cardboard spool, reducing it from 80mm to about 75mm, the adapter spool you posted can no longer be used. Could you upload an updated version?

hey that shouldn't be a problem - will upload it this week

Is anyone having an issue with filament bridging in the threads? I'm not getting anything as bad as pictured in the reddit post below, but very similar. I have tried all of the below, but the issue still persists: -printing in silent mode -printing in 0.12 fine profile -increased wall count -used different wall orders (inner/outer, inner/outer/inner, outer/inner) -avoid crossing walls -slow down for overhangs -seam position -wipe on loops -wipe before external loops -made sure vase mode is not on. I notice the issue is improved when printing in silent mode & 0.12 fine profile, but there are still several filament threads bridging across. I have just been using pliers to break out the bridged filament. The threads still seem to function normally. https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/11o8lc9/stringing_while_making_threads

Hey What filament and printer do you use? Do you have problems with this print or in general? If it is with this print - have you used the settings that come with the profile or your own?

I’m using eSUN PLA+; P1S, basically new; only this print from what I can tell; I have used the your unmodified preset as downloaded from the Make.

What filament did you use and did you some kind of flow calibration?

Question before I print this for all my spools: What do you mean by “The spool is VERY tight to fit in the AMS”? Will it rub against the lid prevent the spool from rotating? Also, which AMS model are you using? I have the SA001 AMS (I received my P1S with AMS Combo 2/9/24).

The spool won't rub against the lid - maybe if there are just a few meter of filament left it will lift up on the first try and then feed. for the tight part - the rest of the sentence explains what I mean - on some spools the filament rubbed on the feeder of the AMS - if the filament is unevenly distributed it could lead to a non functional spool. For the AMS - I don't know - one is from 07/23 the other is 10/23 - there should not be that big of a difference if any
