Description

I've made a cute shadow box from Basic PLA for valentine's day with various designs for the couples. Choose which couple you like most and put a total of 6 inserts (textured side facing down) into "case_front". They have numbers from 001-006 on the build plates, and should easily slide down into the casing.

Depending on which lights you want to use, USB or battery powered you can put fairy lights through the hole of "case_back" and fix them with some tape or use the pegs that are around the hole to form a circle. Check the photos for details. Fix the battery box with double sided tape into it's place. I bought a 3 meter fairy light (warmwhite) that uses 3x AA batteries so they last way longer than the version with the button cells. For the Amazon link to the warmwhite or RGB fairy lights - scroll all the way down.

UPDATE 2024-03-27: created a collection with all my available inserts for the shadowbox. They can be combined with each other https://makerworld.com/en/@technerd/collections/962148

UPDATE 2024-02-12: included STEP files for “007_diy_empty_insert” and "case_back_003_RGB_fairy_lights" if you want to create your own inserts in Fusion360 or change the backplate to fit your own lights.

UPDATE 2024-02-02: new “case_back_003_RGB_fairy_lights.stl” now compatible with both models 3m/10ft & 5m/16ft RGB fairy lights - I made the pegs longer & bigger circle diameter to fit the bigger battery box from RGB lights.

UPDATE: Btw. you can also use RGB fairy lights - here is what they look like in different colors:

Print the "case_cap" 2x and slide them over the front and back of the heart. They're press fit and should stay in place, if not use some drops of glue or double sided tape. The overall size of the box is 215mm x 215mm.

For perfect results make sure to use the golden textured PEI plate and calibrate your filament.

Check out the Youtube Video below on how to assemble it.

I will try to add new inserts for the box from time to time. Just check my profile or my collections for new uploads like the new castle Neuschwanstein inserts. Until now these are the included designs here. Happy printing!

Btw. these are the fairy lights (warmwhite) that I got from amazon. Size of the battery box is 74mm x 51mm x 19mm. It has an integrated timer and stays on for 8 hours, so the 3x AA batteries should last 1-2 months: Amazon Fairy Lights

The new “case_back_003_RGB_fairy_lights” is compatible with both models RGB and warmwhite!

What an amazing design! I ended up designing my own plate #2 to be in line with my family. I am also planning on fixing an ESP-01S with RGB board mount to the back plate with a WS2812b ring light as well. I’ll hopefully upload a remix for anyone else who is interested. Again, this is awesome and I can’t believe I have to keep this a secret for 14 days. My wife is going to love it!

I also went towards a custom print. Wife and kids loved it. Can't thank you enough for the concept and designs. Hope you win. For myself, I used google to search relevant silhouettes, then I converted those to .SVG files, imported to Fusion and expanded to the 1.2 mm thickness. Had to trace and reverse engineer the heart shape.

What a wonderful design! I decided to do a WLED-Version which adds good options to use more than one color at a time.

Fantastic model! Printed on an A1 mini with smooth plate and turned out great. I added some RGB LED's with remote to allow color change and bright/dim. Printed the sky background in transparent blue PETG.

I just used rgb usb strip lights from Walmart and attached around the rim of the last back plate. They cost around $5.

This was very easy to print. All plates print perfectly with no cleaning required. I didn’t have any other lights than the Santa lights. I hot-glued them to where they looked the best. If I buy some more lights, I can just reprint that plate. Great project! Jayo PLA White

Vielen Dank!
