This model is design for MakerWorld light contest (1/5). Complete free version is only available on here Makerworld.

Hey guys, I am here to introduce you the ultimate Light sword. This design is combined with retractable and light elements. All the parts is printed beside the Light source (Cat Light). I will put information of this Cat light so you can buy it via amazon, I don't have any affiliate link or anything, so I will provide information you will need to do you own research and buy the Cat light.

When it works with different light & filaments.

This design idea come from Cat light, I was playing with my cats with this cat light that my boss bought a while ago. I relize that this Cat light come with strong while light, violet light, and red light. So I came up a idea to fully utilize these light to make a Light sword. Design was focused on adopt and integrate this CAT light into the system.

I want it to hide inside of the sword, but you could still switch the light, to turn it on and off. I also want it to be able to retractable, so it will be fun to play. So, eventually I came up with this design.

This Sword takes around 4h20m to print on X1C, takes around 140g of filaments.

Upadate: 1.8.1 (2/1/2021)

Improving tolerancing on light switch mechanism, improving lower external shell & cap tolerancing. Cap piece now might need force fit.

Switching light: (on/off)

Still have a little bit tolerancing issue, will update later.

Required CAT Light:

If the picture looks like this, it should work. It just rebranding on different store.

Material Suggestions:

I Highly suggest to use Glow in the dark filament or Translucent filament with some light color.

As the CAT light within the sword, it will constant charging the glow in the dark filaments, if you have rainbow glow in the dark filaments, it will get a lot of amazing color.

For external parts, DO NOT USE SOME BRITTLE silk filaments, it will break very easily. Some silk filaments will have very poor layer adhesion due to high speed printing cause part failure.

Filaments that I use for internal parts:

Glow in green: Inland Grow in the dark ABS.

Muti-color one: Gradient Multicolor Grow in the dark PLA.

Post Work:

You will need to remove the brim on the internal parts, it should be very easy to remove. Brim on external parts should be easy to remove and clean too.

Installation:

Refer this clip.

Printing profile:

This design have small contact area on the build plate, make sure you clean your build plate and enable bed leveling before printing. There is no support needed.

I put 3 different printing profile up there, please refer pics and pick what you like.

Design:

The retractable mechanism part is very simple.

How to adopt CAT light and keeps it's function(switch lights & on and off) takes a little bit brain power.

The tolerancing part torturous and time-consuming. Since I don't know what filaments you are going to use, since filaments sinkage rate have big different from type to type / brand to brand. Since I decided post this design, I want to get it to able to work for most people. So find a balance between different material is very challenging. I have tested PLA, silk PLA, PETG, ABS, so all tolerance should work okay in most cases.

Have fun!

Printed great in regular PLA. Having a problem with the Cat light staying on though but hoping to get that figured out but it's a great print

Absolutely fantastic print the only issue I have is the when the sword is extended it sometimes comes flying apart is there anything that can be done to make the sections a little tighter?

Can you confirm which part is sliding out? This will only happen when the internal part have very big sinkage rate. Switch to other filament might help. I have tested with high sinkage rate filament that I have and revisied tolerance. So, this is a bit strange.

what I did was I took a heat gun and melted the top of the one underneath the tube that slid out just a little bit and pinched it just so that it would go to the end and that is what fixed it for me.

The outside looks great but having similar difficulties as others. That particular cat light turns off when the button is held down too long. I did a workaround where I rotated the light where it "rests" in the opening, so flick the knob counter-clockwise to turn it on and immediately clockwise for it to be back in the opening. The knob wants to turn on its own a lot

I used PLA. it slides on and does not fall off if turned upside down; however, it fill fly off if swung.
