Description

This container designed to replace the standard cotton bud containers. This model is based on the old pepper style containers with a rotation lid mounted on top of a threaded lid. When rotated, it will expose a hole which will permit the dispensing of cotton buds.

Once cotton buds are dispensed, the lid can then be rotated to close the dispenser. This dispenser can be used both in the bathroom or in the travel bag alike. The lid and container have a knurled pattern to aid with grip with very finely tuned thread to remove the lid when you need to restock the container with cotton buds.

The container can be fully printed at home and assembled using the printed split pin, or if you want a sturdier solution you will need a M5 x 6mm Chicago Screw which can be readily bought on Amazon (Chicago Screw on Amazon UK) and some Loctite 242 (Loctite 242 on Amazon).

Assembly instructions are pretty self-explanatory however if you were to use the Chicago Screw, keep in mind that however tight you make the Chicago Screw will determine the ease of rotating the Rotational Lid. I would suggest you also put a small dab of Loctite 242 on the thread of the screw prior to assembly and then tighten the screw to the desired force required to rotate the lid. This will require you to test and adjust the tightness of the Chicago Screw by rotating the lid whilst the Loctite 242 has not yet set.

If you were to go down the route of the printed Split Pin, no Loctite will be needed and it is just a simple case of assembling the Bud Buddy!

I have designed if such the parts can be printed in different colours if one so wishes.

Thank you very much for the rating, out of interest which path did you go down for the Bud Buddy? What colours did you opt for? The Chicago screw or the printed split pin? I think with the Chicago screw you can always change the rotating lid out quite easily for another colour if you fancy a change. Going down the split pin path requires potentially a new split pin being printed with the rotating lid as I would imagine the split pin to snap by design when you disassemble the lid.

I was looking for a box or dispenser for cotton buds, but I didn’t like most models because the bud lies in the open air, and in my case it can lie there for quite a long time and accumulate dirt or debris. I saw your model and realized that this is what I need :) I didn't bother looking for a Chicago screw, I use printed split pin. First, I mistakenly printed it in pink, then I simply printed new one with white color. There were no problems with replacement - I pressed the antennae with tweezers and took it out, nothing broke. The result is on the photo. The rotating lid does not have any noticeable play, but it rotates quite easily (I would like it to be a little tighter, maybe I can drop a little something on the fixed lid for more friction, little bit of a hot glue, maybe). Thanks for the useful model!

Yes, I smeared some hot glue on the edge under the rotating part - now everything is a little tighter. Now I'm happy :)

Thank you for the rating, did you end up with one colour or go for multiple colours for the print?

Hi, thanks for the rating I appreciate it very much. Do you mind sharing the colour options you went with? I have printed quite a few now for friends and family mixing numerous colours and have a big fascination in how all the colours mix. :) Hope the container serves you well!!

Merci pour le compliment, c'est cool. Tout blanc c'est bien, j'en ai aussi imprimé un tout blanc pour mon fils à l'exception d'un couvercle rotatif rouge et il est joli en blanc aussi !!
