Description

Hueforge art of Captain America!

There are two versions, one without the 3D shield that comes out of the picture and one with it. In both cases the models are pre-cut at the correct heights for layer colour changes, so you do NOT need to add in manual colour changes in the preview window after slicing.

Time Estimates:

No 3D Shield, Just Flat Art Piece - 6hrs

With 3D Shield - 21.5hrs

Colours I Used:

Bambu Basic PLA Red

Bambu Basic PLA Blue

Sunlu PLA+ Black

Sunlu PLA+ White

No supports necessary and the shield will print right into the 2D art without the need for glue.

The 3D shield is an adaptation of this model https://makerworld.com/en/models/47861#profileId-49657

Scaled up about 300% and cut to be just a little bit shorter.

I recommend using the settings in the print profile, as it took me quite a bit of finicking to get it printing correctly and those settings work perfectly.

Specifically, for the version with the 3D shield, there is a Layer Height Range modifier on 0 - 2.2mm of the model, which should print with a layer height of 0.08mm and 100% rectilinear infill (this is the part that is the 2D art piece). 2.2mm and up will print at a layer height of 0.2mm with 15% gyroid infill. This was done to cut down on a whole bunch of wasted filament and time.

Great execution and combination of 3D elements.

why does the shielded version take so much longer? is it the color changing at each layer of the shield doing it? color changing is time intensive, but 15 hours for just the shield seemed a lot longer than I would have guessed! it looks awesome though, kudos!

Yep, it's just because of the colour changes which unfortunately adds quite a bit of time. You could choose to make the shield all one colour and paint it after if you wanted to save on time!
