Description

Update:

My verison two of the cubes can be found here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/160151#profileId-175832. It adds a layer that allows seperation of stacks of cubes!

Reduce your purge/poop and print something helpful for schools!

The idea of these cubes is not to print them alone (but you can if you want) but to use to flush into when producing multicolour prints. Once they are printed donate them to your local school, I am sure they will love them!

To Use:

  1. Once you have your object that you want in colour on your build plate inset a pile of cubes that roughly match the height of your print.
  2. Go to Process, Objects, Select the Cube, Others and select ‘flush to object’ and ‘flush to object infill’
  3. Slice the file with 'Preview' and have a look at the ‘Flush’ value, it will have decreased (Note: you can ignore any warnings, these only occur because there is a gap to allow the blocks to be stacked)
  4. Right click and Clone the Cubes, everyone you add will decrease the purge value (Note: you will see some increase in the total filament used, only keep adding cubes to the point that you are comfortable to use)
  5. Print your file, seperate the cubes and donate them to a good cause (or build a fort with them!)

If you have any questions at all please let me know. This is my little project to improve 3D printing and attempt to make the world a better place!

Important: Don't use lightning infill (as much as it is awesome and all) because it will mean the cubes will break when you try to spilt them.

Hi, I tried to apply it to it with this print but I get this message "the prime tower is only supported if all objects have the same variable layer height". Layer height is 0.2 in global. How do I apply the same height to the cube to avoid this error? Any Idea? Thank you

Hmm, the cube should be at 0.2mm by default. To check variable layer height you select your model then the four bars on the top line. Make sure neither of them have chosen to be variable

Hmmm so I printed >10 as purge objects but I used the 2 stacked together as it was closer to my overall height of the object I was printing. Now I cannot seem to break them apart :D they are completely stuck together lol did you have any issues with that?

Yeah, I could do it when I was printing Polyterra (which is designed to break away easily) but not anything since then. I have a new design going up later on today which is completely break away. For what I’ve already printed the students at my school don’t have any issues with playing with the multiple stack ones

Replying to @Markharris1989 :
Oh yeah I doubt they'd have issues I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss some setting or something when using them :)

Yeah, that was my first thought when it wasn’t working after my experiments. I think my new method is rather eligant

sorry, but I don't get how / what they are used (for). I get the idea of saving filament, but what do you do wth the bricks?

He says in the description about donating to a local school as these are usually used to help teach young kids the concepts of counting as well as other basic maths. I remember using something like these in school over 20 years ago :D I have a bunch printing right now along with the bamboo dragon that was recently released on here

Yep, give them to schools or children to play with

Does this mean that you don't need a colour tower ?

I've seen this done by the 3D Printing Professor, I think, and you do still need a tower. However, I believe it may purge less to that tower and more to these with much less to the waste bin. YMMV and there are some tips to be found.

You will still need a prime tower, but it will reduce the amount of poop produced

What an awesome idea! This should be a standard / built-in option.
