Holding square bars on a lathe with a three-jaw chuck is always very difficult. For this purpose I have designed this model so that it can be manufactured with a 3D printer.

I have included three files with different sizes, for 6 x 6 mm, 10 x 10 mm and 12.7 x 12.7 mm (1/2 ") bars.

These models are scalable to the size you need but you must take as reference the size of the bar you want to turn, NOT the general size of the part.

For example, if you want to scale to turn a 15 x 15 mm bar the scale factor is obtained with the following formula:

Scale factor = (15 * 100) / 12.7 which would give a result of 118.11% for the whole part.

This in the case of starting from the model I have uploaded for 12.7 x 12.7 mm bars.

If you wanted to make a clamp for 7 x 7 mm bars, it would be convenient to start from the model for 6 x 6 mm bars. It is always convenient to choose the closest size to scale up from it.

The bar to be clamped should slide smoothly through the square hole, without large clearances, before the clamp is tightened on the lathe chuck.

This will ensure perfect centering, as can be seen in the accompanying photographs.
