Description

The Gerber Silver Knight a popular design in the 1980s, an elegant little knife of Japanese design. You could get them with any number of scales made from wood, scrimshaw, mother of pearl, and plastic.

My own knife had knurled plastic scales, one of which promptly fell off. One of the things that allowed so many different scale styles was that there was unfortunately no mechanical connection for the scales to the brass handle.

The knife sat in a drawer for some 35-ish years while I was unable to find replacement scales. Now that I have a 3D printer, I can design and print my own scales.

If your Silver Knight needs new scales, try this print out. I recommend sanding the previous glue off and attaching these scales with 15-minute epoxy. The print has the bed side down and with my heated, textured P1S bed, it makes for excellent adhesion to the sanded brass handle on the knife.

My knife is pictured with a twist on this design where I added Stars and Stripes. That design is also available here as a remix.
