Description

A simple side spool holder for the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon

Update: Created a small bracket to hold the Bambu 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter, which fits nicely on the side spool holder.

Find it here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/205887

Updated PLA and PETG Profiles!

This version includes the following updates:
    •    Left hand threads for spindle holders - should avoid any chance of unscrewing while in use.
    •    Better thread fit - Threads were a bit tight, this fixes that.
    •    Sacrificial layer to help with screw hole ledge.
    •    Smoothed edges on basic spindle holder.
    •    Multiple build plates for easier printing the parts you need with different settings.

I've made two spindle holders for it. One fits the Bambu Labs Green AMS Spindle holder, and the second fits the basic spindle holder that comes with your X1 Carbon.

The spindle which holds the AMS Spool holder is nice as it incorporates a nice click mechanism to hold it on as well as it incorporates the auto rewind spring mechanism of the AMS spool holders. This works very well.

This is the one you need - ensure you get the Green one: https://ca.store.bambulab.com/products/ams-lite-rotary-spool-holder?variant=44244705378544

You can choose which spindle holder you like and simply screw it onto the main base.

This design uses a PC4-M10 fitting for the filament. This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07L8R4SMG

The spool holder screws onto the existing Bambu Lab screw locations and uses four M3x12mm Hex bolts.

If you use the basic spool holder attachment, it also uses two M3x12mm bolts and two M3 nuts.

Update: jmaestrale has confirmed this works with the P1S as well.

Print settings:

The spool holder is designed to print without any supports!

I've printed this in PLA and it works well for my use.

The components are printed with different settings appropriate for their function.

Main Component:
Infill: 15%
Wall loops: 2

Layer Height: 0.2mm

AMS Spindle Holder:
Infill: 40%
Wall loops: 2

Layer Height: 0.2mm

Basic Spindle Holder:
Infill: 40%
Wall loops: 2

Layer Height: 0.2mm

Instructions:

Print one of the base model. Then print one of either the basic spool adapter or the AMS spool adapter. Screw in the spool adapter onto the base plate, then screw in the M10 fitting into the base plate and attach a length of filament tubing and attach to the intake on the back of the printer - note you will need to unplug the tubing from the AMS if you are using an AMS while printing from the side spool holder.

Wow! I'm about to print it too, I hadn't thought about using carbon filaments. I think I will too. It's just not very healthy to print multicolor with a CF. I'll make it one color.

I used PLA, but increased to 4 walls and just a touch of lightning infill (it's basically hollow). Everything is sturdy enough. I would recommend having the PC4-M10 sticking out of the back. Having it to the front allows the PTFE tube to be pushed all the way through when loading filament.

what size screws did you use for the splitter in the back with this model as a combination

It's actually not attached. It's hanging free back there. I thought about screwing it in but it seemed a little too constrained and I was afraid it would jam.

Hi - you just need the one spool holder. Bambu sells it individually. The link in the description is working, here it is for you. Thanks. https://ca.store.bambulab.com/products/ams-lite-rotary-spool-holder?variant=44244705378544

Hi, is there a reason for this hole having a layer in bridge?

Hi! It is one strategy to be able to print a design where there is a hole that starts off the build plate. it is called a sacrificial layer, easy to poke through as it is a single layer, but allows the section not touching the build plate to print with decent quality.

Bridging works great if the bridge is square, but a hole like this requires a different technique. I have used yet another technique in later designs where a sacrificial layer isn’t required, which works quite well, so you’ll see more of that in future models.

Truly a beautiful design. Made a small remix with the addition of HUB 4in1 Bambulab. Now everything I needed is complete! In the end I opted for a gray similar to the body of the X1c, keeping the details the same green already used in the past. Remix: https://makerworld.com/en/models/189130

Hey, I'm very happy with the holder, but the AMS holder has a left-hand thread and the base plate has a right-hand thread. I printed the Ams Spool Holder mirrored in the X axis.

Hi, thanks for the note. I'll double check all the files. Did you print using the 3mf, step, or stl files?

hey I used 3mf, the PETG profile. You can already see the different threads in the preview. But very good work!

Hey, odd, I just downloaded the 3mf and it looks fine in my Bambu Studio. Let me dig in and see what is up - no one else has mentioned this, but I may have messed something up, sorry about that.

Hi - thanks! If you have suggestions for adapting for use on other spools or other types of spool holders that fit onto the bracket, let me know and I would be happy to design something for you.

I ordered the AMS lite spool holder also that you have pictured, but we had some small TPU spools that my husband is making something with that needed a small spool holder. We have something that will work now. Thank you for the offer!

Der Spulenhalter passt leider nicht ins Gewinde und durch die variablen Schichten sieht der Druck nicht gleichmäßig aus.

Hi. I didn't have the layer lines as you are experiencing, but I should provide a single layer line profile, good idea. The adapter should screw in all the way down, I have printed many of these in PLA and PETG and I haven't had any issues - it screws all the way down to the bottom and when sitting flush, the spool holder lies flat and even. Inspect the threads and see if they are damaged at all.

I scaled down the male portion of the threads by 5% and they fit together perfectly. I'm printing with PLA on a P1S.
