3D model description

A rounded Franciscan Tau to aid prayer and meditation.

I have been an admirer of the simple way of St. Francis for many years. I have visited Assisi many times and wear a small olive wood Tau necklace.

On a recent visit it struck me that a comfortable and easy to hold Tau would be a useful item for prayer. So I designed one.

It sits easily in the hand and helps to remove other distractions while praying.

3D printing settings

I used 0.16 layer height with Cura's 'adaptive layers' turned on, which varies the layer height used during printing from 0.12 to 0.20. But you can choose your own layer height depending on the 'feel' you want.

Straightforward PLA.

I have included files for a complete print and a split version with locating pegs to glue both halves together. Actually a strong interference fit means you can get away without glue.

As with all things 3D printing individual machines will give different results. If you struggle with printing the Tau in one piece then I recommend printing the split version, with the joint faces face down on the build plate.

If the pins are too tight, just reduce their size by a few degrees in the slicer.
