The de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver is a single-engine, high-wing, propeller-driven aircraft with STOL capability developed by de Havilland Canada, initially known as a bush plane. It is used for cargo and passenger transport, agricultural services and was widely adopted by armed forces as a utility aircraft. The United States Army purchased hundreds of this aircraft; nine DHC-2s are still in service with the Civil Air Patrol for search and rescue. A Royal New Zealand Air Force Beaver assisted Sir Edmund Hillary's expedition to the South Pole. More than 1,600 Beaver's were produced until 1967, when the original production line was discontinued.

Due to its great success, the Royal Canadian Mint commemorated the Beaver on a special edition of the Canadian quarter coin (referring to 0.25 CAD) in November 1999.

Inspired by the story of the great journey of a Royal New Zealand Air Force Beaver who helped with Sir Edmund Hillary's expedition to the South Pole, I converted this beautiful model plane, made many years ago.
