3D model description

Interested in architecture? Discover this VOLUME digital model of a remarkable contemporary architecture in the Grand Est region of France. The VOLUME model highlights the volumetry and form of this architecture. Have fun printing it out to better understand and appreciate it, and we hope it will inspire you to visit!

This building is representative of the "1000 piscines" program and of the models resulting from the "piscines économiques" ideas competition launched in 1969. This model, imagined by Schoeller and calculated by the engineer Constantinidis, bears witness to the effectiveness of the formal choices made and to genuine constructive ingenuity. The iconic volumetry of the Tournesol pool serves a simple concept: a 120° opening that combines the benefits of an indoor and outdoor pool. This concept, combined with the futuristic image of this industrialized equipment, was the driving force behind its success on the market. By 1978, 183 Tournesol pools had been built in France. The Tournesol swimming pool, which today enjoys a high profile in the media, embodies the golden age of industrial prefabrication and plastics for both the profession and the general public. It remains an emblematic example of this "architecture of growth", a successful serial experiment of the 1970s. The Lingolsheim swimming pool stands out for its exemplary renovation. The project proposed by Urbane Kultur reintegrates this facility into its urban context while preserving its original qualities: a pool that can be uncovered in summer, a clear and identifiable volumetry, a futuristic image of a dome pierced by portholes.

In 2023, the Tournesol swimming pool in Lingolsheim was awarded the "Remarkable Contemporary Architecture" label by the French Ministry of Culture for works less than 100 years old. To date, the Grand Est region of France boasts around 200 buildings graced with this label created by the law of July 7, 2016. A collection that highlights architecture as a living practice.
