3D model description

Interested in architecture? Discover this VOLUME digital model of a remarkable contemporary architecture in the Grand Est region of France. The VOLUME model highlights the volumetry and form of this architecture. Have fun printing it out to better understand and appreciate it, and we hope it will inspire you to visit!

The rich and complex history of the Kibitzenau swimming pool is the result of the municipality's ambition and involvement in the democratization of swimming (first project for a nautical stadium in France) as early as the 1960s, as well as the introduction of hygienic and sporting standards for the benefit of as many people as possible. The project, designed by Strasbourg's architectural department, demonstrates a high degree of rationality, made possible by constructive efficiency and genuine spatial qualities. The swimming pool can be considered a model of modernity from the 60s, combining a rational square plan with a concrete framework that opens onto the outdoor lawns. The installation of the long-span concrete beams overhanging the Olympic-size pool was exceptional: 1.8 m high beams were kiln-dried and stripped in just 8 days. The refurbishment and extension project by Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes enhances the existing qualities of the pool, while integrating it into its landscape context (reflective facade and new beach to the south) and opening it up to new uses (relaxation and wellbeing for a more family-oriented public).

In 2023, the Kibitzenau swimming pool was awarded the "Remarkable Contemporary Architecture" label by the French Ministry of Culture for works less than 100 years old. To date, the Grand Est region of France has around 200 buildings graced with this label created by the law of July 7, 2016. A collection that highlights architecture as a living practice.
