3D model description

This is the American M42, a High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT), Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional-Munition (DPICM), armor-defeating and Anti-Personnel (AP), submunition containing a Shaped-Charge (SC) incorporating an impact-inertia fuze delivered by artillery projectiles.

While in flight they are stabilized and orientated for impact by the deployment of a nylon ribbon streamer which also creates spin to arm the submunition.

The M42 ribbon stabilizer is folded over the fuze body and held by a stiffener before dispersal.

A heavier and thicker body version with a smooth inner wall is designated the M46 which is used in the lower layers of the projectile due to the additional setback loads imposed on the bottom layers when fired.

88 x M42/M46 munitions are delivered in a 155mm M483A1 projectile.

180 x M42/M46 munitions are delivered in a 203mm M509A1 projectile.

When the M42 (with a yellow band) is used in an MLRS rocket warhead the submunition is designated the M77 (with a white band) and has a plastic slider cap over the fuze body before dispersal.
