Why calibrate your extruder?

First things first.

The extruder is an important part of the circuit that filament makes in a printer. This circuit is made up of a drive block (with the motor) called the extruder, potentially a PTFE tube, and a heating block with a heatsink. So don't confuse the extruder with the extrusion circuit. When you buy a printer, the manufacturer normally calibrates the extruder so that it sends the nozzle the plastic it needs to print, no more, no less.
