Description

***BRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrttttttt!***

This is a 1:1 scale prop for display purposes only of the cartridge used by the A10 Warthog Aircraft and it's GAU-8 cannon.

I looked at the other designs of these cartridge containers. I noticed some of them were missing features, or were not entirely hollow and didn't maximize the available space inside (particularly inside the projectile). This one was made from blueprints that I could find with as much detail as was available. I printed with eSun copper, Polymaker PLA+ metallic gold, and eSun blue. It can be printed without supports. It also has a headstamp and primer on the bottom which many other models lack.

I took extra time to get the threads working well and printing without supports. They thread together well, a little bar of soap rubbed on the threads will make it extremely smooth.

@Emoticon I am an NRA firearms instructor working with BSA Students, and I have been looking for a good training aid for cartridge components for the classroom. I have been using 30mm training dummies and looking for a 3D printed version. This looks great. What would it take to get a version that is scaled up 1.5-2x the size so it's more easily seen from the back of a classroom, with the case sectioned in half so that two halves can fit together, a separate primer that fits into the primer pocket, and a solid inert "powder charge" that fits inside behind the bullet so that students can take it apart and learn about the 4 components of a cartridge and the firing sequence?

Interesting. 1.5x is probably doable. 2x might be too big for my x1c. what do you think about doing a cutaway with removable parts instead of splitting it in half? If I split it in half Im thinking I would need magnets or something to hold it together. Any snap together joints will wear out over time. If I made a cutaway with removable parts it could be printed in one shot without having to buy certain sized magnets or something.
