Description

Prusa Spool to Bambu Refill Adapter

Description:

This is an adapter that makes it possible to use an empty Prusa spool for Bambu refills with low effort, time and material.

This adapter is reusable and only needs 30g of filament and 8 screws.

Ideal for people with empty Prusa spool.

Assembly:

The first step is to seperate the side walls from the coardboard rolle of the Prusa fillament rolle. Simply pry the sidewalls of wigling them slightly. They are stuck quite well but should pop off.

There are two ways to assemble the new refill holder. One where you don't need to cut the original spool and one where cutting is needed.

No cutting:

To assemble the spool without cutting it, simple mount the adapter to the side of the spool that is flat. use the alignment notch to align the holes and screw the adapter in using 8 M3 wood or machine screws (Wood screws recommended, minimum length 13mm).

This method allows to build spools quick and with no need of special tools, but leaves a "lip" on both sides making it AMS incompatible. When mounting on the a1 mini spool holder it will sit a bit akwardly. It worked fine for me but it's of course not perfect.

Cutting:

For this methode use a Tool to cut the original outer Lip op with the ridges from the Prusa Spool wall. I usded a fox saw but a dremel should to quick work of it too. Afterward screw the adapter onto the side you just removed the lip from using the alignment notch to get all the holes aligned (see pictures) and 8 M3 wood or machine screws (Wood screws recommended, minimum length 13mm).

Even the cut version doesn't fully fit the A1 mini spool holder.

I designed an extended Spool holder for the A1 mini that works with the adapted spools

The cut spool works well on X1C P1P and P1S.

Putting in a Refill:

To put in refill simply press both side walls into the cardboard of the Bambulab refill spool, the same way it was done on the Prusa spools. Afterwards remove the holding tabs of the spool and apply the sticker (it might be difficult to read without direct light since it's black on black) Even when cutting the lip, the spool is just slightly to wide to properly fit on the A1 mini spool holder. If i have time I might work on a compatible spool holder for the A1 mini. I'll have the opportunity to test on a P1S soonish and will update the desicption to say if it works well or not.

AMS Compatibility:

The uncut version is probably not compatible with either AMS systems.

For the cut version it might be compatible with the AMS.

Sadly I don't own an AMS. I would appreciate if someone with an AMS could try the adapter out and confirm if it's AMS compatible.

Thanks.

Printing:

-0.2mm layer hight

-You need to print the part twice.

-Provided profile already has 2 adapters on one bed, so only needs to be printed once

-Takes a bit over an hour to print the adapter (2 of them).

-Both parts are identical

-no supports needed

-PETG recommended for durability but not necessary

Needed Parts:

-8x M3 wood or machine screws (Wood screws recommended, minimum length 13mm).
