Description

Introducing our new antistress fidget pen, a printable pen with individual rotating gears that is compatible with any BIC crystal.

Twist the tiny gears to feel the satisfying motion and texture of this pen. Boost creativity, focus, and relief your tension.

We designed this pen with the objective to relief stress in those long studying days or tense moments at the office. Simply grab it with your palm or fingers and twist the gears in any direction, all of them are independent and adapt perfectly to your hand.

How does it work?

We used the fine 0.2mm nozzle to create a print-in-place mechanism that takes advantage of the thin walls generated to break the gears free with ease. If you would like to print a 0.4mm Nozzle version, you can find it here

Important

This item was specifically designed for the 0.2mm Nozzle and to be printed at exactly 0.1mm layer height, any other combination will probably not work well. Also, it is important to have very well-tuned filament and print settings, and to dry the filament before using. Over-extrusion and stringing will bond the gears excessively to the body of the pen.

For printing I had good results with basic PLA and silk PLA. Overall they are extremelly detailed and strong. However, with Matte PLA I had layer adhesion issues and the pens came out a bit fragile. Also, I strongly recommend cleaning the plate very well with detergent and using a brim, as it is quite tricky to hold the pen vertically with such a small area. Reducing speeds can help with adhesion issues.

Also, print without supports, and ignore the floating regions warning from the slicer.

Instructions

Depending on the filament and settings, you will likely need a bit of time to break all the gears free. I recommend using a scalpel tool / X-acto knife or similar and carefully cut through all the gears individually without putting too much pressure. Check video below:

To put the clip and cap together, you will need a bit of CA glue / superglue.

Hi. Did you use the print profile as it is uploaded with a 0.2mm nozzle? Also what kind of failure, does it detach from the plate?
