DIY Nanoleaf Lines

A cheap and easy to build Nanoleaf Lines clone. The DIY Nanoleafs are powered by WLED providing a webinterface, smart home integration, countless effects and many others. Like the original one, individual patterns can be created. Multiple lengths for the lines included to adapt to different print beds and overall sizes.

UPDATE 16.11.2022

Added square center pieces, I had this on my list since releasing the initial hex version. Two versions available, one with sharp edges, one with 2mm chamfer.

Installation:
Pattern design, required to define amount of printed hex nodes and lines
Printing the amount of parts from point 1
2.1. For the amount of nodes -1, the hex base + hex cover is printed. One node will be the start node, using the hex base wemos + hex cover wemos instead
2.2. Lines can be printed in different lenghts for different overall size and to fit on different print beds
(Optional) M3 inserts are installed on the backside of the hex bases in position where the lines will be installed. This leads to more stable connection and is recommended for larger setups. If not installed, the screws are inserted directly in the plastic and need to be tightened carefully
Screws are insterted in the line positions, until ~4mm clearance to the base
The WS2812B are cut to length to fit the lines at the marked lines. The LED stripes are simply slot in the lines
The individual lines are soldered with three individual wires of ~5cm length
6.1. If the node shall have two outputs, the stripes can be soldered in parallel, but two outputs can not be connected to one input, one of them will not be connected
The lines are snapped in the M3 screws, once installed, the screws are carefully tightend to hold the lines in place. The wires shall be routed around the center to screw them to the wall/ceiling
7.1. Wemos D1 Mini is set up with WLED according to WLED quick start guide
7.2. Base is soldered according to the wiring diagram at the WLED quick start guide
7.3. (Optional) Sensor can be attached to switch the Leafs on/off and change color
Once the pattern is finished, the covers need to be prepared by breaking away the thin walls at the position where lines are installed
Installation at the wall/ceiling by srews of adhesive tape
Powering up and enjoy
