3D printer file info

3D model description

Presupported STL files for a hive pipped sharp-edged D6, to print your own dice masters. These printable files result in a nice average/normal sized sharp-edged pipped D6 after printing and sanding.

There are 3 different files included:

► D6 Pipped - This is how the D6 will look after you have printed it, removed it from supports, and sanded it.
► D6 Pipped with Bumpers - This is how the D6 will look after you have printed it and removed it from supports. It will still need sanding to remove the "bumpers" on the edges and smooth down the layer lines. The bumpers help ensure dimensional accuracy when printing, and prevent chipping the die when removing the supports. They also help ensure you're sanding evenly.
► D6 Pipped Supported - This is the D6 at the best angle for printing, on supports and a raft, ready to print on your own resin 3D printer. The supports are optimized for dice printing, and all you need to do is calibrate your exposure settings, slice, and print.

Scale:

These pipped D6 STLs will print at 15mm size. You may be able to scale them up or down by about 15% and the supports usually still work.

Usage of the Files:

These files are supplied to print your own dice masters, so you may upload them to a printing service such as Shapeways as a privately viewable object to have them printed for you, or send them to someone you know who owns a resin printer who will print them for you, or similar transfer of files to get them printed up for you. You are not allowed to redistribute the STL files otherwise.

You can print as many copies of your masters as you need from these STL files, and you may modify the files as needed, but you may not redistribute any of those modified files except to have them printed for you as detailed above.

For commercial use:
- You can sell silicone molds made from these, for the purposes of others casting dice in them.
- You can sell resin dice cast from molds based on the prints of these files (if you may do so in your country - certain types of dice may be patented for sale as gaming devices in certain countries - my files are 3D models of dice rather than gaming devices themselves).
- You may NOT sell the 3D prints of these files - I sell the physical 3D printed masters myself exclusively.
- Crediting me is not necessary, but always appreciated.
- Any other usage, please contact me first.

3D printing settings

Requires a resin 3D printer - not suitable for FDM printing.

Many resins are suitable for dice printing, but some may tend to distort (causing certain dice like the D6 to be visibly skewed), or provide only "mushy" detail on lower faces, with numbers on overhangs filling in where they shouldn't. Some resins may need extreme post-curing, time to off-gas, or coating with products such as Inhibit-X. Siraya Tech Blu and Ameralabs AMD-3 LED tend to capture detail very well and are particularly recommended.

Perfect exposure calibration is key to success with dice printing. Err on the side of slight under-exposure to ensure easy-to-remove supports and crisp numbers. A PDF guide is included to assist in calibrating exposure for dice printing.

The Cube D6 is the most challenging dice shape to print. Despite its simple shape, it can be difficult to get a good D6 print, as it tends to want to skew and distort. You may need to adjust your exposure and lift settings and/or try a different resin to get a good print. If you have trouble getting a good print, please contact me - I'm happy to assist in troubleshooting.
