3D model description

SteamPunk Energy Pistol
Full size steampunk energy pistol for cosplay.

Design include electronics for flashing LED. Gun can be printed and easily assembled without the electronics for a simple, less flashy design. Additional parts are not necessary if not using electronics as parts can just be glued together with superglue.

Additional parts required for functional energy gun:
Plastic Battery Holder (trimmed to fit) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B093ZRXNFF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Taiss Momentary micro limit switch (Roller cut off) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07486RHH7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Energy Chamber - Resin Printer - Siraya Tech Blue Clear - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083DLSR1W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Finished with clear UV resistant spray paint to keep chamber from yellowing. Alternatively, chamber can be made from clear plastic tube, 35mm Diameter at base, shapped to 15.3mm at top.

Flashing LED - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J5G65CB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
Wires, LED, and Battery are housed in the PneumaticChamber. Contacts from the micro limit switch should extend up into this chamber.

32mm X 32mm wire mesh

2 x 3M flat square nuts
3 x 3M Hex nuts
2 x 3M 12mm SocketHead screws
1 x 3M 16mm SocketHead screws
2 x 3m 12mm Phillips flat head screws

STLs are all oriented the way I printed them, minimizing the use of supports as much as possible. Pre-supported STLs provided for the suggested resin parts. Alternately, if electronics are not being used, resin parts can be printed in PLA and assembled.

Post processing: Sanded parts with the exception of the Energy Chamber for obvious reasons. Then coated all parts with a thin coating of resin and cured with UV light. Sanded again with 600 grit paper prior to painting.

Right and Left grips were printed in AMOLEN Dark wood walnut PLA and then stained with a walnut stain.

Do initial painting of all parts. Primer first. Then I used Rust-Oleum brass spray paint for the main gun parts. Rust-Oleum chrome/mirror paint for the LED Mount, Reflector, and wire mesh. The gun barrel and trigger, I used Rust-Oleum gray.

Solder the two wires to the micro limit switch, but leave the other end unattached. Assemble the grip bodies first, installing the trigger and the micro limit switch. Use 3M square nuts should be inserted into the slots at the top of the Right Gripbody. Push down into place, if necessary, with a 2mm allen wrench. Install trigger and micro limit switch then tighten with screws (don’t over tighten) to ensure fit and trigger mobility. Be sure to test the electronics at this point using clips. Squeezing the trigger should light the LED. For the final assembly, I used "green-stuff" to secure the micro limit switch in place. If you over tighten the screws, the trigger will stick and not return to the open position.

Once the grip and trigger/micro switch assembly is complete, attach the PneumaticChamber. Contacts and wires for the micro switch should extend into the interior chamber of the PneumaticChamber. Solder connections to the battery and the LED and feed all the wires into the chamber. Battery should be at the back near the BatteryCap hole. Slide RecoilSupressor into place. Glue the Fin in place. Test the fit of the PneumaticChamber, LEDMount, EnergyChamber, and Barrel. Secure the PneumaticChamber in place with either green-stuff or superglue. Attach and screw in place the Right and Left Grips. Glue the two ScrewHeads in place, covering the socket head screws on the GripBody. Screw the BatteryCap in place.

If using the chrome mesh, roll it into a tube that will fit the diameter of the LEDMount. I soldered the seam to hold the shape. LED MainReflector is mounted to the chrome mesh. I melted two pieces of a paperclip to it and then soldered the paperclip to the rolled mesh. For mounting the mesh to the LEDMount, I heated the bottom of the mesh with my soldering iron and melted it into the plastic.

Install LED into the LED Mount. Depending on the fit, glue in place. Glue the LED Mount to the PneumaticChamber. Glue the EnergyChamber to the PneumaticChamber. Glue the Barrel to the EnergyChamber. Glue the BarrelGround to the Barrel, PneumaticChamber, and GripBody. Glue the GripGround in place to cover the GripBody seam.

Test for flashy lights! Touch up the paint and add details as desired for your awesome new Steampunk Energy Pistol!

3D printing settings

PLA & Resin

For the PLA parts I used 0.1 layer height. Add supports as needed - specifically: batterycap and the Right and Left GripBody. You may want to support the rings on the barrel depending on your printer.
