USS Chicago Bundle - Models for small scale printing

USS Chicago Bundle - Models for small scale printing 3D print model

Description

Note: This offer is a bundle consisting out of two models. I only combined them for the thumbnail shot, the models themselves are seperate, yet scaled the same. The WW2 Version is called old, the refitted version is called new.

The USS Chicago was a heavy cruiser of the Baltimore-class built by the US Navy in the last year of WW2. This class a high cruising speed and good armament, together with capable radar suits and already proven systems. Since the war had come to a slow end, she didnt see any big surface battles, her main task was to bombard japanese positions and guard convoys. Her only encounters were small japanese units, though she fought together with heavier units like Battleships.

After the war had ended she underwent a serious refit, preparing her as a testbed for the newly developed systems the Navy wanted to use. Everything above the main deck was removed and the ship changed quite drastically in apperance. Her turrets were replaced by missiles, earning her the place as one of the very first missile cruisers. In 1964 she entered service once more, having been renamed from CA-136 to CG-11.

Chicago saw several deployments in the Vietnam war, patrolling important routes. She was attacked several times yet recieved no damage, yet she also didnt see any surface engagements once more.

When the Vietnam war was over, the Navy didnt consider modernising her once more and decided to mothball her in 1980. All usable systems were taken off and in the end the empty hulk was sold for scrap in 1995, a little more than 50 years after she had been launched. The only remaining piece of her is the anchor, being placed on the Navy Pier in Chicago.

Note: This bundle is recommended to be used in the 1/4000 scale. The models itself arent scaled, the scale table is down below.

1/4000: 5,1cm or 2in

1/3000: 6,8cm or 2.67in

1/2000: 10,2cm or 4in (not recommended)

For self calculation: The Chicago is 205m or 672.6 feet long, the refit didnt change the length.

The models are intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended below the barrels on the main and secondary guns. Please mind that especially on the refit version of the ship, the print time can climb drastically, especially on Resin Printers. Also the ship likes to tip over, due to the high center of gravity.
