3D model description

If you've ever searched the web for decorative mushroom or toadstool drawer and cabinet door knobs, you surely know how expensive they can be! That's exactly why we chose to create our own for 3D printing. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. As you'll see in the images attached, I printed 6 drawer pulls and 12 knobs for all my kitchen cabinets, and even used the initial 'prototype' print for a bread box opener.

These decorative mushroom cabinet knobs and drawer pulls are the ultimate in organic #Cottagecore household decoration. Enchant your kitchen cabinets and drawers (as we have) or install them in a bedroom room. They're perfect for a nightstand, chest of drawers - anything with a knob or pull handle. Get creative and have fun with it!

Making Them Look Real
Once you make these 3D printable mushroom door knobs and drawer openers, you're going to have a little more work to do, but I assure you, it's worth it! They don't come off the print bed looking like perfect toadstools and fungus. They'll need a quick paint job. don't worry, you don't have to be Bob Ross to make them look good.

If you have a filament color you like for the main color of the mushroom, such as dark red or burnt orange, start by printing in that color. Then add a little white or cream color paint on the mushroom's raised dots, and give the stem a neutral color to match, such as tan or brown. You really can get creative here and make them your own.

If you're going to paint the entire piece, I highly recommend a coat of primer to start, or paint with primer already in it. Otherwise, you could be painting coat after coat before you get the desired color. (I know, I made this mistake already.) A bit of primer goes a very long way!

Whatever you decide, please upload your makes! We adore the cottage core garden decor and would absolutely LOVE to see all your creations!

Toadstool Knob & Drawer Pull Installation
Installing these drawer pulls and doorknobs is the same as installing manufactured knobs and handles from your local hardware store. They print pre-threaded for a Standard M4 Screw Size.

M4 is the standard size for all cabinetry and dresser drawers.

SIZES & SCREW HOLES
The Cabinet Knob comes in a single size, with one M4 Thread Screw Hole in the center of the back.

The Drawer Pulls come in two sizes, 80mm and 100mm across. Each size has 1 or 2 screw holes. The 2-hole version places the screws exactly 2.54cm (1 inch) apart. If you need additional sizes, drop a message in the comments. We may be able to help you out. It may require resizing of the overall mushroom, depending on how far apart the screw holes need to be.

When you print them, please follow the recommended settings below to ensure the threads print strong enough to withstand tight screws and regular pulls. *Before you paint them, insert an M4 screw and screw it into the hole until it comes out the opening inside the piece. You'll be able to see it. Screw and unscrew it once or twice to loosen any sag in the filament. This makes installation a lot easier.

In our experience, the screws went in nice and tight. Not all printers deliver the exact same quality prints, though. If your experience is different and the hole is too small, keep running a screw through it back and forth until it loosens up enough. Or, if it's too loose, I've left enough room inside the piece to put a small nut on the screw and tighten it.

3D printing settings

Any time you're printing an object that will be put under stress, such as these toadstool style knobs and dresser handles, you need to make sure they are going to stand up to lots of pulling and tugging, as well as the tightening of the screws that secure them to your furniture. For this reason, I strongly suggest using these minimum slicer settings. You can go stronger if you like, but these settings are what we used and they seem to be very sturdy.

Recommended Settings
Layer Quality Height: 0.2
Initial Layer Height: 0.3
Walls: 5
Infill: 50%
Infill Pattern: Cubic Subdivision
Speed: 60mm/s
Supports: Optional*
Plate Adhesion: No

*If you do not use supports, the mushroom dots closest to the build plate may have a little sag. You can either add supports to avoid this, or simply clip/sand the sag points before painting.
