V2 - has extra dowel alignment holes for use with a drilling template, this will line everything up for use with the 3d printed slotting mitre box

Fret board slotting templates, for the 2 most common guitar scale lengths.

They have a 2mm slot to match up with a peg/dowel on your mitre box slotting fixture (3d printed slotting mitre box coming soon!)

There are stl’s for the complete template and cut into 3 lengths to fit most common print beds.

So long as your printer is accurate, they come out very close to perfect (as best I could measure, using DRO on milling machine to verify slot distances), certainly closer than measuring fret distances by hand.

No need to glue the 3 pieces together (although you can if you want to) clip them together and use double stick tape or masking tape and superglue to mount to your fretboard – this will hold them together then you can break them back don for easy storage.

There are 3mm dowel holes at 150mm centres on the centre line of the template – you can use these to index your fretboard.

24 Frets, plus extra positions for a nut slot and or zero fret.

I think these will these stand up to repeated usage if you are carful, but I am aiming this at the occasional guitar builder.

More sizes to follow – made the cad model so I can make any size so if you have an odd request or adjustment (to nut slot width for example) get in touch.

The templates are 75mm wide, but you can use your slicer (or CAD) software to scale one dimension if you need a different width.

3D printing settings

Choose the print settings that work best for you but try to avoid elephants foot on the first to save any post processing error. PLA is a good material for this as it quite stiff
